Review- Confessions of an Angry Girl by Louise Rozett

Summary-

Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make…

1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?

2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is nowenraged and out for blood. Mine.

3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don't know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)

(Sorry. That was rude.)

Review-

Confessions of an Angry Girl looked like a really interesting read when I first came upon it. The story about a girl who has anger issues sounded unique and I wanted to understand her reasons behind it. The book didn't turn out to be super amazing or anything for me but it was a good read. There were some things I liked about it but there were some I didn't. I'm somewhere in between here.

Rose Zarelli, is our protagonist. She's just lost her father a few months back. Her brother has left for college leaving her all alone with her mother who is pretty much absent emotionally. I liked Rose. She had her set of reasons behind her issues. I really felt her pain and sadness when she spoke of her Dad and how she missed him. Rose was how I expect a fourteen year old to be but she was a little too young for me to relate completely with.

I really enjoyed Rose's relationship with her brother Peter. I would have liked to see more back story into his character and why he was angry at their father. Rose's best friend Tracy actually annoyed me. She was pretty typical. Wanting to do anything to gain popularity. The whole high school drama shown was a bit cliched and I don't know, I was just expecting more from it.

Then we have Jamie. He's Rose's love interest. He's older than Rose and all sorts of forbidden. He has the whole mysterious thing going on around him but I never really warmed up to him. He never really stood up for Rose when she was being bullied and tortured by his so called girlfriend Regina. He just seemed to pop up at times and confuse the hell outta Rose. But I did love Angelo. He was an awesome character and somehow reminded me of Kenji from Unravel Me. You can't help but love him.

Confessions of an Angry Girl was not a bad read. It was just a bit typical for me. It looked like the same high school drama repeating itself over and over again. There were a ton of characters shown, some shallow, some not and some in between. The whole book goes from Rose's point of view and I enjoyed being in her head. But I did not like how she was mean to Robert when there was no real reason behind it. The book ends on a cliffhanger and some what abruptly. I am expecting more from the next book which will hopefully improve the story line and the characters. But still, if you like younger YA books you could give this one a try.

  1. I have heard of this book but same like Aman I'm refusing to read it because the character is 14. It's simply I would be annoyed and blame the whole world and so on. Even though this story sounds like a great read and coming of age read still I'll pass. Great review Janhvi :)
