Review- Made of Stars by Kelley York

Goodreads Summary:

When eighteen-year-old Hunter Jackson and his half sister, Ashlin, return to their dad’s for the first winter in years, they expect everything to be just like the warmer months they’d spent there as kids. And it is—at first. But Chance, the charismatic and adventurous boy who made their summers epic, is harboring deep secrets. Secrets that are quickly spiraling into something else entirely.

The reason they've never met Chance’s parents or seen his home is becoming clearer. And what the siblings used to think of as Chance's quirks—the outrageous stories, his clinginess, his dangerous impulsiveness—are now warning signs that something is seriously off.

Then Chance's mom turns up with a bullet to the head, and all eyes shift to Chance and his dad. Hunter and Ashlin know Chance is innocent...they just have to prove it. But how can they protect the boy they both love when they can’t trust a word Chance says?

REVIEW:

*NOTE: We (The Readdicts) received an eARC of Made of Stars by Kelley York from Jaime @ Entangled Teen in exchange for an honest review. We thank Jaime and Kelley for the book!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Just wow. I mean, wow. Like, wow. Yeah. Wow.
I have no idea what to say. I have been thinking about how to put down this review 12 hours since I finished reading the book and all I come up with is wow.
Exactly a year ago in October 2012 I read author
Kelley York's Hushed (my review) and loved the book. I knew she was an author on whose books I had to keep an eye on. When I began reading Made of Stars, I thought it was very similar to Hushed, both character and plot wise and it actually was. But it didn't bother me even once since I loved Hushed, and I ended up loving Made of Stars even more.
After reading a series of rather average and okay books in the past few weeks, Made of Stars was just what I needed. It's exactly the kind of book that I love. It's exactly the kind of story that I devour. It's exactly the kind of characters I love to fall in love with. It's exactly the kind of fucked and messed up that I adore. It's exactly the kind of writing that I admire.
This book was... Amazing. Gorgeous. Beautiful. Dark. Terrific. Mysterious. Special. Bone chilling. The cover and title of the book are perfect and so is everything else about it.
Unlike like the cover, title and story, Kelley York's characters are never perfect. They're flawed, messed up and a whole new level of different which makes it so easy to love them. Hunter and Ashlin are siblings in a crazy way and they have been friends with Chance since childhood and once together, the three of them are inseparable and invincible. In their own imperfectness, they are perfect and I admired that.
Hunter's amazing nature and causal and genuine confusion made me love him. Ashlin's sweetness and accommodating nature made me love her. Chance's horrible and heart breaking life and sparkling personality made me love him.
Made of Stars has been an absolutely mind fucking read. Author Kelley York's writing is so amazing. The flow, the words, the sentences, the descriptions... Amazing amazing amazing!
As for the ending of the book, we all know reality isn't very beautiful. Even then there are some people who need a bed of roses, sunshine, meadows, daisies and happily ever afters in books. Then there are some others like me, who maybe love to see reality in books and devour real endings. Made of Stars is an unforgettable read with a completely incomplete and gorgeous ending. I loved it. And for the last time now... WOW.
