Feature & Follow Friday #41

Feature and Follow is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read.

Today's question is:

Q: What blogger would you most like to meet in real life? Tell us about him or her.

My answer:

I get to pick only one? Well, no. I'm picking three!

I'd love to meet Aman @ Enticed By Books and Tanja @ Ja Ĩitam, a ti?.

Aman loves the New Adult Contemporary Romance genre as much as I do and both of us, uh, like jerks and bad boys.
Tanja and I are similar in the sense that we tend to read a little bit of anything and everything and we experiment with our reads.
All of us being in the same age group somehow adds to our commonalities.

I've known these super sweet girls since Janhvi and I started blogging in August 2012.
They've been our constant supporters ever since! Their comments always make me smile.
Thank you, girls! Y'all are simply fab! :*

I'd also like to meet my fellow blogging buddy and Potterhead Aylee @ Recovering Potter Addict
She, like me, is addicted to Harry Potter and though it's impossible for me to get out of it, I'd love to listen to her recovery tips and discuss Harry Potter with her!

Closer home, it would be nice to meet all my fellow Indian blogging buddies!

Someday, maybe, we can all meet!

Who would you love to meet?
Follow us and we'll follow back.
Happy Friday and happy reading!

Review- Stripped by Brooklyn Skye

Goodreads Summary:

“I like you.” His voice is low and soft, which I don’t deserve. I look away, down the rutted parking lot.
“Don’t... waste those words on me.”
He touches my cheek. “You just need someone to show you.”
“No.” I ease back again. “I don’t. So please, Torrin, stop trying to swoop in and save me. I don’t need saving.”

College freshman Quinn Montgomery will do anything to avoid the mistake her sister made—killing herself over a boy. But when she is forced into nude modeling at a local college to support her family after a bankruptcy, she begins to crack, just enough to let Torrin, the university’s top varsity oarsman, see that the real Quinn is not as feisty and unapproachable as she wants everyone to think. But letting someone in comes at a steep cost and, it turns out, Torrin is connected to Quinn’s family in more ways than she could ever imagine.

REVIEW:

*NOTE: We (The Readdicts) received a copy of Stripped from author Brooklyn Skye in exchange for an honest review. We thank Brooklyn for the book!

I was completely intrigued by Stripped  when I first came across the book. The title, the cover and the summary- everything seemed way too pretty. I knew this was going to be a good book and it didn't disappoint. By chance, we got an ARC of the book from author Brooklyn Skye and I'd like to thank her again for it.
Quinn Montgomery is two years younger than her sister, Zoe, who commits suicide for reasons which seem obvious and unjustifiable at first but later as the issue is given a deep dig, it, to be honest, seems perfectly fine. Quinn's dad's prestigious and respectable position goes down the drain after a fraud, within the administration of the school he works at, gets public.
So all in all, Quinn has a disturbed and messed up family. The only saving face of the family are Quinn and her mom, who was an admirable and lovely woman. I loved how she tried really hard to keep the family together.
Quinn's family is bankrupt and she is forced to fund her own education, which she is undertaking only to fulfill her sister's dream of graduating. I really liked Quinn. She appeared to be such a strong girl, but there were those moments when her innocence and vulnerability came to the forefront. There were times when she appeared to be way too crazy to me, but everyone close to her says that she has always been crazy.
Because she believes that her sister committed suicide because she fell in love with her boyfriend, Evan, and it was too much to take in, Quinn wants to stay as far away from love as possible and has an on again off again relationship with her own boyfriend, Derek.
Until she meets Torrin, Quinn really just seemed like a facade of her own personality. Torrin was a great guy. I liked how he made Quinn slowly open up to him and accepted her the way she was. He was sweet, kind and understanding and the past that he carried with himself, which was obvious to me since the beginning, was quite heartbreaking, for him and Quinn. But I really loved to see their relationship grow. They somehow seemed to get their real side out only when with one another.
Author Brooklyn Skye's writing is really pretty. The book talks in Quinn's voice, which was clear and concise. Stripped was really an amazing story about love, loss and family.
It was good to see the immense importance given to family, which seems quite non-existent in Young Adult and New Adult novels. The sisterly bond between Quinn and Zoe was strong to the point that the two were best friends as well, and I loved seeing that. The suicide was taken up really well, unlike some other books where it's just not justified. Also, the whole thing about Quinn going for nude modeling for an art class was something different and interesting to read about.
Save for the fact that I already knew the suspense without reading any spoiler and the content seemed a little less deep to me, overall, it's safe to say that Stripped is a very good read that fans of New Adult Contemporaries, especially those that deal more with issues coupled with romance rather than just plain romance, will love and enjoy, just like I did.

Review- Dare You To by Katie McGarry

This post has Janhvi's and Sarika's reviews of Dare you To (Pushing the Limits #2) by Katie McGarry
Dare You To releases May 28th, 2013.

Goodreads Summary:

Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. "Dance with me, Beth."

"No." I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again....

"I dare you..."

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all....

Pushing The Limits series:

JANHVI'S REVIEW:

Dare You To is the second book in the Pushing The Limits series. You can find my review of Pushing The Limits here. This is Beth and Ryan's story. Dare You To was easily my most anticipated read of 2013. I loved Noah and Echo's story and so my expectations of Beth and Ryan's story were high. Dare You To was definitely an amazing read but I somehow felt that it didn't wow me like Pushing The Limits did.

We'd met Beth Risk in Pushing The Limits and she came off as a total bitch. She is still a total bitch in the beginning of Dare You To. It takes time to get used to her and she is hard to relate to. But as and how the story progresses we get to see behind all her layers. The facade she puts up is just a form of defense mechanism. Underneath Beth is a sweet girl who just wants to take care of her mother.

Ryan Stone is the golden boy. It looks like he has it all and that his life couldn't be any more perfect if he tried. But Ryan has secrets of his own. He asks out Beth on a crazy dare. Ryan Stone doesn't lose and he sets out to prove just that. But soon Ryan begins to see the real Beth. They have an intense attraction and as they share their real selves they find that they understand each other more than anyone ever could.

Beth and Ryan's relationship starts out on a dare. But as they get closer they realize they could have so much more. The romance is slow moving but honest. Beth has had a difficult past and an even worse present. She is hesitant with Ryan. Her insecurities of not being good enough get in the way. Ryan with his flawless image suddenly wants to risk it all for Beth. I loved how Ryan got Beth out of her shell. Especially by the end of the book, Beth and Ryan's romance becomes seriously swoon worthy.

We also get to see a lot of Isaiah in this book with Noah and Echo. I felt so sad for Isaiah and all the heart ache he had to face. He came of as an intense, loyal guy with a tint of mystery. I am so looking forward to his happy ending in Crash Into You. The writing style was amazing with Beth and Ryan's point of view. We get to see the story from both the sides and understand the situation. I couldn't connect to Beth and Ryan as fast as I did with Echo and Noah but still it was one of my favorite reads this year.

*Note: This book was provided by Netgalley for an honest review. We thank the publisher and the author.

SARIKA'S REVIEW:

*NOTE: We (The Readdicts) received a copy of Dare You To by Katie McGarry upon request from Net Galley. We thank Net Galley for the book!

Like everyone else, I thought Katie McGarry's Pushing The Limits was an amazing story. But unlike everyone else, I wasn't swooning over Noah. The guy who caught my fancy was Isaiah and I was dying to see him end up with Beth. Then news came out about Beth's book and how she doesn't end up with her best friend, Isaiah, but with another guy, Ryan. As heartbroken as I was to hear it, I obviously had to read Dare You To because Beth meant a lot of Isaiah. I got my share of Isaiah and Beth got a wonderful story for herself, so overall, this was a win-win situation.
Dare You To is the story of Beth Risk, who comes from a very messed up and troubled family, which I couldn't get at all. She was a bitch in the beginning but when she meets Ryan and eventually starts opening up to him, her vulnerable side comes out. After all, she is also a normal girl. She lives with her uncle Scott who was an amazing man. Beth was a little crazy but being Beth comes with craziness and I loved seeing the Elisabeth side of her.
Ryan has it all set for him- dad who supports his baseball, mom who has taught him gentlemanly manners and a brother who has always been there for him, even when he had his own problems to look after. Ryan was a jerk in the beginning but again, when he meets Beth, he wants to figure her out and eventually the two fall in love in the most unknowingly sweet way. And Ryan isn't all that perfect after all. I loved how careful, well mannered and sweet he was and I like jerks, so yes, he was all good for me.
Together, Beth and Ryan were subtle and loud at once. They made for a great couple, who helped each other figure out and solve their problems. I loved the romance between the two and how they took everything slowly as they had a lot to deal with on the way.
When compared to Pushing The Limits, Dare You To might not seem as impacting as the former, but when read as just a book, it is really a very sweet romance and a tale about disturbed teenagers who find peace with each other. Although the messed up family, the indifferent and lame parenting is becoming rampant in Young Adult books, the meeting of two teenagers who work things out makes it worthwhile. I really liked reading Beth and Ryan' story. It was also good to see Echo and Noah again. I completely got how Beth believes she and Isaiah are better off as best friends and I can't wait to read his own story in Crash Into You. Noah got his happy ending, Beth got hers and now, Isaiah needs his as well.
Author Katie McGarry's writing is so good and true it's like you find it hard to part with the characters you journey with. She writes some really amazing stories.

Review- All The Way by Jennifer Probst

Summary-

The food critic…

Miranda Storme never expected to see Gavin Luciano again. Three years ago, they had an intense affair—and then he bolted. Now he’s back, and Miranda has the pleasure of a little payback: a scathing review of his restaurant. Revenge is a dish best served the first chance you get…

And the restaurateur…

With three months to make his family’s struggling Italian restaurant successful, a bad review is Gavin’s worst nightmare. But this isn’t just about the meal. He's finally realized what he left behind and is determined to spend the next eight weeks proving himself to her in the kitchen…and in the bedroom! This is one dish she won’t be able to refuse...

Review-

I am a fan of Jennifer Probst. I have read and loved her Marriage To A Billionaire series. You can find my review of The Marriage Bargain here. That's why I was pretty excited to start All The Way. I was disappointed by the book and it turned out to be just an okay read.

Miranda Storme, is a food critic. She never expected to see Gavin Luciano again but she stumbles upon him when she goes to an Italian restaurant which is owned by his family. Gavin broke Miranda's heart three years ago and left Miranda all alone to pick up the pieces. I liked Miranda. She was hurt by Gavin all those years ago so now she always has her walls up. We get to see her side of the story of what happened.

Gavin has worked hard to earn money. He has sacrificed his family, his love and everything else to get where he is now. Yet he is not satisfied. So he takes three months leave to make his family's struggling Italian restaurant a success. What he doesn't expect is the rush of emotions he gets when he sees Miranda. Gavin was the trademark arrogant alpha male. He regretted his actions all those years ago and now he wants Miranda back.

The romance was good but I found things to be repetitive. The story was okay but again I felt that it somehow lacked originality. Maybe its me whose read too much romance but its like I knew exactly what was gonna happen next. It removed the excitement out of the read for me. I was waiting for Jennifer Probst's signature wit and banter but it did not come.

Gavin's family were a good bunch. Andy and Elaine were Miranda's supportive friends. There was a lot of food and music in the book which I enjoyed. My favorite line was the Frank Sinatra one- "Who knows where the road will lead us, but if you let me love you, I'll love you all the way." All the Way was an okay read for me.

Review- The Homing Pigeons... by Sid Bahri

Goodreads Summary:

In the middle of the catastrophic 2008 recession, Aditya, a jobless, penniless man meets an attractive stranger in a bar, little does he know that his life will change forever…..
When Radhika, a young, rich widow, marries off her stepdaughter, little does she know that the freedom that she has yearned for is not exactly how she had envisioned it…..
They say Homing Pigeons always come back to their mate, no matter where you leave them on the face of this earth. Homing Pigeons is the story of love between these two unsuspecting characters as it is of lust, greed, separations, prejudices and crumbling spines.

REVIEW:

*NOTE: We (The Readdicts) received a copy of The Homing Pigeons... by Sid Bahri in exchange for an honest review. We thank Nimi @ The Readers Cosmos and Srishti Publishers & Distributors for the book!

Before I begin my review, let me just point out a few things that attracted me to The Homing Pigeons... when Nimi @ The Readers Cosmos emailed us about reviewing it.
First off, the title. Pigeons are beautiful and home is beautiful so it is such a beautiful title for the book.
Secondly, the cover. It is safe to say the cover is not only one of the prettiest, but definitely the most prettiest cover I have seen on an Indian novel so far.
Thirdly, the tagline. "Not all love stories are perfect, but then, neither are people." How much truer can the statement get? I agree with it and love it, hands down.
Lastly, the summary. Even though I normally don't read summaries, this one was short, to the point- few lines that had me imagining one thing in my head and giving me another thing altogether in the book.
Like my fellow blogging buddy Ankita @ Booklok Coffee says in her review of The Homing Pigeons..., even attempting to write a brief summary of the book in my own words is very risky without giving away spoilers and I don't even know what can be considered as spoiler and what cannot. So I will just stick to what I liked about the book and what I did not, of which, the former weighs more than the latter.
I read quite a few Indian Contemporaries here and there and while I enjoy most of them, I simply can't relate to some of them. Among all the Indian Contemporary Romances, The Homing Pigeons... was, by far, the most beautifully written novel. Author Sid Bahri's writing is simply beautiful. In his debut novel, the author has nailed the impressive and exceptional art of captivating the reader by his sheer words, lines sentences and paragraphs- in short, his writing, which is truly commendable. The story takes place in a span of some ten to fifteen years going from past to present and back and forth between the points of views of the two protagonists, Radhika and Aditya. Both their voices were clearly illustrated and put down in a clean, clear, nice and neat manner.
As a story, The Homing Pigeons... is a warm and wonderful tale of two beautiful and broken people, who, because of the wicked games that destiny loves to play, cannot be together and yet, those same wicked games are what make their paths cross. Both Radhika and Aditya were well depicted, strong and a little frenzied characters. When I started reading the book, I had no idea what was going on and how the two voices were even related. But eventually, everything just fell in place flowingly. Radhika's past was pitiful and she grows up to be a strong woman made up from layers and layers of circumstances, experiences and situations. While I found her side of the story too much to take in, I loved seeing how she went through everything that she went through without creating a scene and taking life as it came. Aditya, on the other hand, I really, really liked. I really liked reading his point of view. He had his reasons for everything he did at every point in his life and God, he was just too good. A lot can be said about both Radhika and Aditya, but again, there comes the peril of giving away the whole story.
I loved this love story which interwove and tied the two ends of the same thread in an intricate knot. The Homing Pigeons... was truly a beautiful and sensational novel that goes beyond the pretty cover. It is an articulately written novel about life and love and how, no matter where life takes us, we always find ourselves going back to what we love. I could have easily given the book full 5 on 5 owls, but yes, the story and characters for me, in the Indian context, were too much to take in, but that writing... That did it and had it all.

Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway! His Risk To Take by Tessa Bailey

Summary-

The greater the risk, the hotter the reward…
Homicide cop Troy Bennett had a reputation on the Chicago PD for being fearless and in control—until the night his daredevil partner is killed during a raid. From that moment on, he swears he’ll never again be responsible for the loss of a loved one. To escape his demons, Troy transfers to the NYPD, bringing him up close and personal with Ruby Elliott, a beautiful, street-savvy pool hustler.
Reckless and stubbornly independent, Ruby embodies everything Troy’s avoiding, but when she walks into O’Hanlon’s Pub and blows his carefully laid plans to hell, Troy knows he has to have her—risks be damned. But there’s a connection between Ruby’s shadowed past and a case Troy’s working involving a notorious Brooklyn felon, throwing her safety into jeopardy. Confronted with his biggest fear, will Troy push Ruby away to keep her safe or fight to keep her in his arms where she belongs

Review-

His Risk To Take is the second book in the Line Of Duty series by Tessa Bailey. You can find my review of the first book, Protecting What's His here. I had really enjoyed reading Protecting What's His and so I was pretty excited to start His Risk To Take. It certainly did not disappoint me.

Troy Bennett has moved from Chicago PD after his daredevil partner gets killed during a raid. He never again wants to be responsible for the life of a loved one and he doesn't trust himself with it. But his transfer to NYPD brings him up close and personal to Ruby Elliott. I loved Troy. He was fiercely protective and dominant. His possessiveness of Ruby since the first moment he sees her was swoon worthy. Ruby was all that he wanted to avoid again but he can't help but be reeled in by her.

Ruby Elliott is a pool hustler. She is reckless and stubborn. I really liked how she wanted to leave her past behind and start afresh. She was determined to make things right in her life. Ruby's way of thinking in situations was completely different than that of Troy but their end game was the same. But when Ruby's life is in jeopardy because of a case Troy is working on he leaves no stone unturned to protect her.

Troy and Ruby had sizzling chemistry since the first moment they meet. And before you know it they're burning up the sheets. The intimate scenes could only be described as hot. His Risk To Take definitely fits in the insta love category but it was really well portrayed, making it believable. Troy and Ruby challenge each other. In spite of what each of them has been through they understand each other and just want to protect each other from harm.

I loved how they stood up for their individual beliefs. Troy and Ruby were both stubborn so when they finally came together it was amazing. Of course a little grovelling from the hero never hurt. Tessa Bailey manages to pull off another short and sexy read which leaves you grinning. If you're a fan of sexy contemporary romances this one should be a definite read.
