Review- True by Erin McCarthy

Summary-

When Rory Macintosh’s roommates find out that their studious and shy friend has never been with a guy, they decide that, as an act of kindness they’ll help her lose her virginity by hiring confident, tattooed bad boy Tyler Mann to do the job…unbeknownst to Rory.

Tyler knows he’s not good enough for Rory. She’s smart, doctor smart, while he’s barely scraping by at his EMT program, hoping to pull his younger brothers out of the hell their druggy mother has left them in. But he can’t resist taking up her roommates on an opportunity to get to know her better. There’s something about her honesty that keeps him coming back when he knows he shouldn’t…

Torn between common sense and desire, the two find themselves caught up in a passionate relationship. But when Tyler’s broken family threatens to destroy his future, and hers, Rory will need to decide whether to cut her ties to his risky world or follow her heart, no matter what the cost…

Review-

I was pretty excited to start True by Erin McCarthy. Though the summary sounded pretty typical with a good girl bad boy romance, I didn't mind. But there was more to it and I enjoyed reading it. Though there were some parts I wished moved at a faster pace.

Rory Macintosh is a 20 year old college student. Her room mates find out that she has never been with a guy and so they decide to help her out by practically pushing Tyler and Rory together. I liked Rory. She was sweet and shy and a total nerd in the true sense. Her mind often drifted off towards Maths and Science and it was different in her head.

Then we have Tyler. He is supposed to be a bad boy and he's tried to be portrayed as one. Tried being the operative word. I didn't find him that bad. He is dealing with a ton of his own issues and he really doesn't have time for love and relationships. But it was nice seeing him so fascinated with the way Rory's mind worked. They were attracted to each other because of all the dissimilarities between them.

Okay, in the beginning there was no chemistry between Rory and Tyler. It felt like two people were just put together on the same page. But slowly and steadily it got better. The romance and sparks weren't as good as I would have liked them to be but it was good. There was no unnecessary drama between the two of them and the angst what little of it is there, comes towards the end.

I really liked Tyler's brothers. They were the best part of the book. It seemed to me that Rory's friends were trying to control her life too much without taking into consideration Rory's feelings. It was a good book but there was no being torn between common sense and desire and passionate relationship and what not as mentioned in the summary. Still, True was a good if not brilliant read for me.

  2. I liked the brothers too. I am really curious about the oldest brother and wouldn't mind reading his story.
