Review- My Beloved's MBA Plans by Disha

Goodreads Summary:

My Beloved’s MBA Plans is a collection of engaging stories with a common thread running through all of them – How much are you willing to give to fulfil your MBA dream? Would you be willing to give up a cushy job and start from scratch? you be willing to stay apart from your spouse? you be willing to uproot your family from a well-settled life?

Read on to discover how Vivek’s MBA course turns out to be quite an adventurous journey with his wife Divya and their two kids. For Arpita, it is a second chance at love. Payal and Nitin make the campus their home while Geet faces a tragic loss. Join Suraj and Priya as they break away from the family business to carve out a path for themselves and discover how Rahul and Dimple spend an unusual honeymoon.

These are just a few stories from this colorful
collection set against the backdrop of life on campus and
aspirations for an MBA degree. The book is a ride through different shades of life and experiences. Whether you are single or married, this book is an absolute must read for anyone who wishes to take an unconventional decision in life.

REVIEW:

*NOTE: We (The Readdicts) received a copy of My Beloved's MBA Plans by Disha from Srishti Publishers & Distributors in exchange for an honest review. We thank the publishing house for the book!

Author Disha's debut book, My Beloved's MBA Plans came as a pleasant surprise in my mailbox from the publishers. Before that, I had seen many reviews for it and readers seemed to be loving the book. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it but there were a couple of people who were waiting for my take on it and when I saw that the book was barely 110 pages long, I finally decided to read it and I finished it within an hour or two.
My Beloved's MBA Plans was not what I expected it to be but then again, I don't read book summaries. I thought it would be the story of a couple who make family, love, education and work run hand in hand. While I was right about the latter part, I was wrong about the former.
This wasn't just the story of a single couple, but a couple of couples from among her mates that the author interviewed. These couples wished to pursue their higher studies after marriage and succeeded at it. I myself am pursuing my post graduation studies and often wonder how a few of my classmates manage to run a home as well as attend classes and study hard. I think it was a very good effort from author Disha's part to dig more into the matter and find out how it really works. And reading about real experiences is always good.
Because these were tales of married couples, I could not relate to it. I have no idea what goes on on that front. I felt like I was reading a blog or surveys in a newspaper rather than an actual book. I'm sure people who are in that age group will easily understand the dilemmas and feelings of the couples. There was that one time in India when every youngster wanted an MBA degree following his/ her name and I was aiming for it too. But, as the good old saying goes, times change and people change. This book is for all the determined people out there.
Being really short, My Beloved's MBA Plans was easy to read. I did not particularly enjoy the book and I did have some issues with the writing which was very simple but maybe it was meant to be that way.
Overall, My Beloved's MBA Plans was a decent and easy read that was short and sweet.

  1. I truly admire people who can work on their education, work and have family at the same time. I hardly believe I'd be able to manage all that. It's a great thing that someone interviewed these families. But at the same time I do understand you. We aren't married and we can hardly imagine how it looks in reality (at least I). Great review Sarika :)
