Review- Killer in High Heels by Gemma Halliday

Summary-

L.A. shoe designer Maddie Springer hasn't seen her father since he reportedly ran off to Las Vegas with a showgirl named Lola. So she's shocked when he leaves a desperate plea for help on her answering machine - ending in a loud bang. Gunshot? Car backfire? Never one to leave her curiosity unsatisfied, Maddie straps on her stilettos and, along with her trigger-happy best friend, makes tracks for Sin City in search of her MIA dad.

Maddie hits the jackpot, all right. She finds not only her dad, but also a handful of aging drag queens, an organized crime ring smuggling fake Prada pumps, and one relentless killer. Plus, it seems the LAPD's sexiest cop is doing a little Vegas moonlighting of his own. In a town where odds are everything, Maddie bets it all on her ability to out-step a vicious murderer. She just hopes her gamble pays off... before her own luck runs out.

Review-

We are back with Maddie and the whole gang in Killer in High Heels. This time the stakes are higher and things are even more personal. Maddie hasn't seen her father since he ran off to Las Vegas with a showgirl named Lola. So, she's shocked to hear him on her answering machine with gunshots in the background. Maddie can't help herself to help him.

Maddie was still her sweet junk food eating self in this one. When she hears her father, she wants to help him but knows that things are much more complicated than they seem. There's also her relationship with Ramirez which is up in the air. Dealing with so many things, Maddie decides to go to Sin City to help her father.

There are some shocking revelations made when Maddie reaches Las Vegas with her best friend Dana and Marco in tow. I really liked Dana and Marco. They are the comic relief and the trio together land up in hilarious situations. With Dana's unapologetic flirting with anyone male and Marco's penchant for over dramatizing every situation I flew through the pages.

Maddie finds out that some Las Vegas clubs really are owned by the Mafia and that there is an organized crime ring smuggling going on. Plus there's LAPD's sexiest cop, Ramirez who doesn't know to kiss or kill Maddie for getting herself into dangerous situations. It is safe to say that there was a lot of kissing.

In Killer in High Heels we get to know much more about Maddie's life. Every single crazy person in her life makes an appearance and just adds to the book. Things are moving forward for Ramirez and Maddie but they still have a lot to sort. If you enjoy reading a light chick lit book with a hint of mystery every now and then, this is the book for you though I did find the first one better.

  1. Damn! When I saw girls cloth (or what you can see) I though this one was about Brazil! Well I hoped. Anyhow this sounds like a really interesting read, but I'm afraid not for me. Great review, Janhvi :)

    Um...shocking?

That line made me giggle, but otherwise this sounds really interesting. And, of course, I love just about anything set in Las Vegas. And that cover...at first glance doesn't look like much but I can't stop staring at it.
