Top Ten Tuesday #36

Top Ten Tuesday is a bookish meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today's topic is:

top ten books i'm not sure i want to read for various reasons

Here's my list:

1) This one is from the host, Jamie's list- The Lord of the Rings trilogy: I began reading this once upon a time when I was thoroughly mesmerised by the movies, but the fact that the Acknowledgments were longer than the first chapter made me rethink. Since then, I figured it's better to appreciate the movies instead. Also, I doubt I'll ever be able to remember all the- albeit unique- way more than just a handful of names.

2) Delirium series by Lauren Oliver: I have book #1 on my shelf, but for some reason, I don't really feel like picking it up anytime in the near and/ or far off future. I've read mixed reviews and although that never really bothers me, I just don't want to read the series.

3) Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward: Trust me, not just Janhvi, but a few other reader friends have spoken endlessly about this series and have encouraged me to read it as well. But my answer is no. I don't know why, but no. I may not necessarily like it, and I'd hate to pretend fangirling just so my friends are happy. No fakeness in friendship, after all.

4) Any Nalini Singh book: Janhvi is behind me to try just one book by Nalini Singh, but I don't really want to. Of course, I like to read a bit of anything and everything and I love that J is loving the author's books. I also like listening to her talk about it, but somewhere, I know it's not for me.

5) Any Jill Shalvis book: Again, a recommendation from Janhvi. (Warning: Her name is going to appear a lot on this list.) Janhvi has generously shared her Jill Shalvis books with me, but I never pick them up. Why, you ask? Well, I'm not sure. It might just be way too cheesy and fluffy for my taste. Sorry, J!

6) Any Jennifer Cruisie book: And her name comes again! Jennifer Crusie is again a Janhvi recommendation. (Think I should make a shelf on Goodreads by that name?) Again, I don't really know the exact reason, but maybe it just won't be something that I'd particularly enjoy and I'd hate to disappoint J just because I go into a book thinking it won't be all that good.

7) and 8) Allegiant series #2 and #3 and Mortal Instruments series from book #2: I've read the first books of both the series. I didn't particularly love it as much as everyone else seems to have loved it. I really am not sure at all about continuing them. I would have read them back to back at a younger age, but then I've grown up now and to put it bluntly and honestly, I'm not even interested.

9) and 10) Matched trilogy and (this is borrowed from the hosts Jamie and Daisy's picks) Eve trilogy: When these books were out, I wanted to read them so bad. But I didn't. And now I've lost interest. I don't want to read them anymore. They may turn out to be simply amazing, but I'm no longer in the mood to find out if they'd actually be amazing or no.

What about you? What books made it to your list? Let me know. Happy Tuesday and happy reading, everyone!

  1. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a good pick! I've heard great things about the series but somehow I just can't get myself to read them. Matched is another trilogy I wanted to pick up but haven't managed to so now I think I've lost interest completely.

  2. A lot of books on your list I feel the same way about even though I didn't put them on my list. I read Matched a long while ago and I liked the world, but not the romance. Since the driving force of the second seemed to be the romance I just never really wanted to pick it up.

The same goes for the Mortal Instruments series. I know everyone says you have to at least read the second when because the first ones the worst, but I just don't want to read it.

  3. The only books I've read are Nalini's Guild Hunter series! It's pretty cool, although the recent constant change with narrators is a bit jarring sometimes. I can't always seem to get in on the "big" happenings across the series.

I read the Divergent trilogy--still need to read Four though--and apparently remain one of the few who enjoyed it through and through. Wasn't necessarily thrilled with its ending, but I wasn't angry and hateful like a lot of readers seemed to be. It's upsetting, but as they say, to each their own. (I think that's how it goes at least! ;) )

  4. I cannot seem to read the last Divergent trilogy, I got half way through and now it is just sitting, and I heard the ending was super rough so that made me even more hesitant! Delirium was enjoyable but #3 was rough, it lowered my overall view on the series unfortunately.

  5. I can see that there are a lot of series on your list and I can totally see where you're coming from! Both for not wanting to start them and not wanting to commit myself to them after not loving the first book. It's definitely a commitment! As for continuing on with Divergent and TMI, I would say stick to your gut - if you weren't really feeling the first book, then the series may not be for you (and that's okay!). There are so many other great books you could be reading rather than force yourself to continue on with a series you weren't feeling!

  6. I love the LOTR movies, but there is something about the books.. I've tried to read the first book a couple of times, but I always strand halfway. Blugh, Delirium.. First book was okay, but the books that follow are terrible.
