Review- Once upon a Moonlit Night by Elizabeth Hoyt

Summary-

From New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Hoyt comes a delightful Maiden Lane novella that begins once upon a moonlit night—and ends wickedly, wonderfully ever after...

Hippolyta Royle is running for her life. Pursued by hounds on a cold rainy night, the heiress flags down a passing carriage and throws herself at the mercy of the coach's occupant. Whoever this handsome traveler may be, he is her only hope to escape a terrible fate. But should he agree to escort her to safety, he's in for much more than he bargained for.

At first Matthew Mortimer doesn't believe Hippolyta's story, that she's a fabulously wealthy heiress who's been kidnapped. He assumes she's a beggar, an actress, or worse. But once his new travel companion washes the mud from her surprisingly lovely face, and they share a breathtaking kiss, there is no turning back.

Review-

The Maiden Lane series by Elizabeth Hoyt is one of the few historical romance series I actualy follow from release to release. Unlike others where I tend to gobble up the entire series after all books are out. Yes, I am impatient like that. Once Upon a Moonlit Night is book #10.5 in the Maiden Lane series. This is a novella but it can definitely be read as a stand alone. In general I am not a big fan of novellas but I still quite liked this one.

Once Upon a Moonlit Night is the story of Hippolyta Royle. If you've been following the series you know that we've met her in the past few books. She is half Indian and that makes her really unique but not always accepted in the English society. The novella starts off with Hippolyta running for her life when she meets Matthew Mortimer, her rescuer, even if he isn't exactly willing.

I liked Hippolyta as a heroine. She was exotic on her own way. She was at a vulnerable point in her life but she is still strong and determined. Matthew on the other hand is just back from his travels. He doesn't believe that Hippolyta is a wealthy heiress but he feels protective about the woman. Matthew was a nice hero. Even though he doesn't want to fall for Hippolyta he does. But as is the nature of novellas we don't get to see every single nuance of the characters in the book.

Elizabeth Hoyt writes fabulous romances and the one in this book was just as nice. With the perfect mixture of sexy and sweet Matthew and Hippolyta come together. Throw that in with marriage and a really sweet epilogue and you have Once Upon a Moonlit Lane. I am incapable of giving a novella more than 3.5 stars as I am always left wanting more and the same is the case with this one. But I still think this is one of the better novellas out there with a semblance of a plot. This was a nice read.
