Review-
Undercover in High Heels is the third book in Gemma Halliday's High Heels Mysteries series. I have to admit that reading these books back to back is not a really good idea. While I enjoyed the first one, the books seem to get repetitive and that seemed to happen in Undercover in High Heels.
Maddie is back. I like Maddie as a character, though she never listens to anyone and almost always ends up poking her nose where it is not required. She has her own charm but you can't enjoy it if you overthink it. In this book, Maddie is addicted to a tv show called Magnolia Lane. When a body turns up dead on the sets things get complicated.
Even after a hundred warnings Maddie can't listen. It just so happens that the sexy cop, Ramirez loses his position after Maddie's interference and now he's on body guard duty on the sets of Magnolia Lane. Ramirez was still the elusive hot cop we know. I sometimes didn't like how he was hot and cold towards Maddie but we know that his feelings are true.
There was a lot of development, in terms of the characters as well as the romance. Maddie and Ramirez gain a new depth as their relationship progresses and complicates further. There was actually a sub plot in this book going side by side with the main story line in Maddie's life. It was okay, but as I said, repetitive.
Undercover in High Heels makes for a cute read if you read this kind of a book once in a while in between your regular reads. Gemma Halliday has a fun way of writing. I still like Maddie and gang and things between Maddie and Ramirez are not completely sorted in this one. But, yeah, no more chick lit for awhile for me. This made for a light, cute chick lit read.

I actually didn't finish the first book in this series, maybe because I wanted more seriousness, and I hated that Maddie just kept meddling.
ReplyDeleteGood review!
This is the main problem I usually have with chick-lit stories. They all sound the same, especially if it's a series. Many things turn out the same only with different characters. Sorry you didn't enjoy this one as much as the first. Great review, Janhvi :)
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I hear about this series, but it's not something I'd pick up to read - it reminds too much about TV shows.:(
