Review- Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Review-

I had read Cinder some time back and I found it to be supremely unique and well written. It was unlike any other book I'd read before which is hard to say nowadays. So I was pretty excited to get started on Scarlet. The way Cinder and Scarlet's lives intertwined was extremely well portrayed and I enjoyed Scarlet much much more than Cinder.

Scarlet's grandmother is missing and she is desperately searching for her. She knows her grandmother wouldn't leave her just like that and she believes she has been kidnapped. She will do whatever it takes to bring her grandmother back. But what Scarlet doesn't know is that it is all connected to something so much bigger. I adored Scarlet. She was so fierce and determined. She worked hard and fought hard. When she meets Wolf her world gets toppled upside down.

Wolf was one of the best characters I've read about. He was an alpha through and through. He's a street fighter but there are so many more layers to his personality. Another thing that made Wolf even more swoon worthy to me was the way he was smitten with Scarlet. He was so hesitant with her in the beginning. He genuinely cared about her and was determined to help her. All the possessiveness and protectiveness just made me drool all over him.

The romance between Scarlet and Wolf was not exactly insta love but it was pretty damn close to it. There are several events which happen which bring them closer to each other. Plus they have hot chemistry and I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns which came in their relationship. But Scarlet is not all about Scarlet and Wolf. Cinder plays a major part in the story.

I loved seeing Cinder again. We get introduced to Cadet Carson who was hilarious! His comic relief was so perfectly timed that it made me laugh out loud several times. We also get snippets from Prince Kai which played an integral part in moving the story forward. Marissa Meyer has written a beautiful, complicated and complex story. I'm a fan. I can't wait to see what happens next in the Lunar Chronicles.

Review-

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a retelling of Cinderella except where Cinder is a cyborg. Before getting into Cinder I had read a ton of reviews, all excellent for Cinder. The whole concept upon which Cinder is based was really unique and fascinating. It was not like any other book I'd read.

Its the future and humans and androids live on earth. Every thing is very high tech but still there's an Emperor who rules over all others in New Beijing. Other creatures have also been discovered and one of them are Lunars who live on the moon. What no ones knows is how the fate of one girl connects them all together.

Cinder is a gifted mechanic and cyborg. She is obviously a second class citizen being a cyborg and lives with her stepmother and stepsister. The nation is racked with the plague which no one seems to have found a cure for. And when her stepsister gets diagnosed with it Cinder does everything in her power. Cinder was a great protagonist. She was strong and smart and determined. It was fascinating to watch her mind work.

As the story progresses and we come to know more about Cinder's past and you feel more than a little anger at what was done to her. I wanted Cinder to get justice and find out everything that had been going on with her. In between all this is Prince Kai who is struggling with so many problems of his own. But all their stolen moments together, sparse as they were, were super sweet. The romance is slow and steady.

Marissa Meyer effectively blends everything together. All the story threads entwine perfectly well and her writing style is great. The story is well paced with a steady flow of surprises. Unfortunately Cinder ends on cliffhanger with no happy ending in sight. But it is a real, substantial cliffhanger not a scene left halfway in the middle of a climax. Lucky for me Scarlet is already out and I hope to get to it soon. Cinder was a different and good book which should be tried by all sci-fi lovers.
