Review-

I had wanted to read His Monsoon Bride since quite some time. When I was finally able to get a copy of this one I got right to it. His Monsoon Bride turned out to be quite a cute read. It was very typical where Mills and Boon books are concerned but sometimes typical can be comforting and this one was a nice romance. 

Amrita is our heroine. She is the daughter of who was once the rich owner of Piramal Industries. Unfortunately now, her father is in debt and the way for her family to get out of it is to marry Mehtab. I really liked Amrita as a heroine. She was a sweet and an independent woman who only wanted to be loved for who she was. The constant comparison she faced with her famous deceased mother, the insecurities she sometimes had and the vulnerabilities she showed made her very easy to relate to.

Then we have Mehtab. He was a little bit of a stereotype where Mills and Boon heroes are concerned. Arrogant, handsome and wealthy beyond compare. But we do get to see his side of the story too and though I wish we got more of him, whatever we did get was good. He was genuinely attracted to Amrita and though he didn't know how to be in a relationship, he tried his hardest.

Amrita and Mehtab shared great chemistry. I loved all their conversations. They were witty and quick. They did have a few silly misunderstandings but that was fine. Amrita and Mehtab made a really nice couple. I was also pleasantly surprised at the epilogue. It added a great touch to the story while giving a glimpse into the future and just something a little extra for romance lovers. His Monsoon Bride was a good, quick read.

Meet the Author

Shilpa was a year and a half when she was first introduced to the world of books. Her mother would park her with a picture book on the floor of the kitchen while she finished her cooking for the day. While it’s no longer the kitchen floor, you can still find her tucked away in a cosy nook somewhere with her nose buried in a book. While books in all genres interest her, it was romance that captured her heart. While racing through every romantic fiction book she could beg, borrow or buy, her over active imagination started to work overtime and weave its own stories. Years in the corporate world followed by a stint of entrepreneurship crystallised her belief that all she really wanted to do was give life to the stories bubbling inside of her. Review- Rescued by Love by Shilpa Suraj

Review-

I had previously read The Girl He Left Behind by Shilpa Suraj and really enjoyed it, so when I got a chance to read her latest release, Rescued by Love, I went for it. I have to say I liked Rescued by Love even more than her previous book. Rescued by Love was a sweet and quick romance read.

Naina is our heroine. She is the daughter of the Supreme Court Chief Justice and she is kidnapped as hostage days before he must sentence a terrorist. I really liked Naina. She was such a strong heroine. The circumstances under which she meets Arjun are horrific and yet she tries to make the best out of the situation. I loved how she remained such a sweet and nice girl even after her awful family issues.

Then we have Arjun. Arjun is the one who rescues Naina. Arjun was quite the typical tall, dark and handsome guy. He was an introvert in comparison to the bubbly nature which Naina shared. He didn't know what to do with his sudden feelings for Naina and tries his best to ignore them. But he definitely comes around.

I really liked the chemistry Naina and Arjun shared. While Naina wanted to jump head first into her feelings, Arjun was more hesitant. But they both couldn't deny the attraction. It seems like the universe is always stacking up odds against their favor and we do get to see that throughout the book. I do wish Arjun would have acted towards Naina sooner but then again, he wouldn't be the Arjun we knew then.

Shilpa Suraj weaves an exciting tale through Ladakh to Goa. The story was very engaging and I was really rooting throughout for Naina and Arjun to finally get together. A special mention goes out to Arjun's brother Aryan, he was an amazing younger brother with a good sense of humor who wanted what was best for Arjun. Rescued by Love was a good read.

Review- Scorched by his Fire by Reet Singh

Summary-

Convenient boyfriend, inconvenient attraction!

Mita Ramphul can't face another family set-up with a 'nice young man'. What she needs is to divert her family's attention so introducing the devastatingly handsome Tanay Devkumar as her new boyfriend is a stroke of brilliance. Until Tanay's scorching hot kisses threaten to shatter her plans for the perfect pretend date. 

He might drive her crazy, yet spending time with Tanay sparks a passion Mita never knew she had. It's only meant to be temporary, but when Tanay looks at her with that smoldering fire in his ebony eyes Mita can't help but surrender to the temptation of her fake boyfriend.

Review-

I had the pleasure of meeting Reet Singh at the Pune Lit Fest this year. This is where I found out that she is the author of Scorched by his Fire. I can never say no to reading a romance and Scorched by his Fire turned out to be a really sweet and romantic read.

Mita is a twenty six year old. Like every family, her family wants her to get married to a nice young man and Mita needs to divert their attention. I really liked Mita. I think she was sweet and funny and feisty. She was protective and a little bit possessive of her loved ones but her heart was always in the right place. All in all she was very easy to relate to.

Then we have Tanay. Tanay is suspicious that Mita is having an affair with her best friend. The best friend also just happens to be Tanay's brother-in-law and Tanay will do anything to protect his sister from getting hurt. Even if it means pretending to be Mita's boyfriend. At first, I thought Tanay was very easy to jump to conclusions about Mita but as we see his side of the story we get to understand him.

Tanay and Mita have undeniable chemistry since the moment their eyes meet. Though they have sparks flying all over the place they don't trust each other. I found their journey of finally realizing their feelings for each other very sweet. 

The book spans from Mauritius to Kolkata where Mita goes in search of her family's origins. Reet Singh's writing style is easy and engaging and I flew through the pages of Scorched by His Fire. I really wanted to get to the end and see Mita and Tanay's much deserved happy ending. I did wish that we'd gotten an epilogue though. Scorched by His Fire was a quick, good read.

After an exciting and fulfilling career as a business journalist, she turned to freelance writing, crunched numbers and wrote reports about consumer behavior and social development issues. Somewhere along the way she got on to the screenwriting bandwagon and wrote scripts for documentaries and spec screenplays for feature films. She was hired by a filmmaker to write a feature script based on a true story. When she penned her first romantic short story she won the 2012 Harlequin Passions Aspiring Authors Contest. Two of her books, The Indian Tycoon's Marriage Deal and Trouble Has a New Name have been published by Harlequin India. And she is currently under contract to write two more for the same publisher. Review- The Girl He Left Behind by Shilpa Suraj

Review-

I wanted to read The Girl He Left Behind from the title itself. I always love a good second chance romance if well written. Luckily, The Girl He Left Behind was a pleasurable read. It did have a few cliches here and there but I didn't mind. Overall, I really liked it.

Sia is a romantic fiction editor. Once upon a time she believed in happily ever afters but after the only guy she had ever loved left her she has given up on the concept. I really liked Sia. She had a horrible time after Ryan left her and though she tried to move on, things just went down hill for her. I found Sia to be a capable and determined woman of modern times.

Then we have Ryan. Ryan is back in town and now he wants Sia back. At first I wasn't all that convinced about Ryan. It took me some time to get warmed up to him but as we see his thoughts we can see his reasons. Ryan had issues to sort through and by the end of it we can see he only wants what is best for Sia.

Ryan and Sia definitely had chemistry but I would have liked to see more. We can definitely see Sia's hesitancy through out and I liked how Ryan didn't easily give up on her. Though I did find him to act stupid where Nisha was concerned.

I absolutely adored Sia and Ryan's friends Minty and Adarsh. Both of them were awesome best friends who got in the much needed humor and wit into the plot. Shilpa Suraj's writing is easy and engaging. It was easy to fly through the book. The Girl He Left Behind was a good read.

Review- His Runaway Royal Bride by Tanu Jain

Summary-

Review-

His Runaway Royal Bride by Tanu Jain is the story of Veer and Meethi. I really liked His Runaway Royal Bride much more than I expected to. As you get to know Veer and Meethi and the reasons behind their actions you can't help but hope for their happy ending.

When Veer's wife Meethi disappeared three years ago he was devastated. But now he's found her and he won't stop till he gets his revenge from her for breaking his heart. Veer was a typical cold Mills and Boon hero. He had his ego and pride and the one time he decided to trust his heart it got trampled upon. I liked Veer after we find out his back story. It really makes you understand his behavior.

Then we have Meethi. Meethi never wanted to marry Veer at such a young age but she was charmed by Veer himself. She couldn't help but fall for him. I really liked Meethi. You'd think that because Veer and Meethi share a nine year age difference Meethi would be immature and spoiled. But that was so not the case. Meethi has had to face hardships of her own and there were very good reasons behind her wanting to get away from Veer.

Veer and Meethi's love story goes in the present but we do get flashbacks from the past when they first met. I think that really helped in understanding their situation. Veer and Meethi both clearly love each other but they have a hard time expressing it. They both also had a ton of individual issues to work through. But they finally do find their way to each other through all the misunderstandings.

His Runaway Royal Bride is filled with angst and drama. But there are happy times as well. It was a bit cliched but I didn't mind. I was happy to see Veer and Meethi finally get what they deserve. His Runaway Royal Bride was a good read.

Review-

I had read The Indian Tycoon's Marriage Deal by Adite Banerjie before and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I was really excited to see that a new book was coming out by her. I absolutely adored Trouble Has a New Name. It had all the elements which I love having in my romance novels and I really loved Rayna and Neel's story.

Rayna is a model whose boyfriend just broke up with her via text. Even though she doesn't feel like flying for her friend's wedding she doesn't want to disappoint her. And so begin the events in Rayna's life. I really didn't think I would like Rayna as much as I did. She is not your typical snob of a model. She was down to earth and sweet. I also loved how she seemed to think that Murphy's laws were always true in her case. It made her a very realistic character.

Then we have Neel. He is forced to share a villa with the beautiful Rayna because of a mix up in room allocations. What he doesn't expect is the urge to protect Rayna from her dumb ex and nosy relatives. I really liked Neel. He was the typical tall, dark and handsome hero but we also get his back story. I think that gave him and his reasons behind not wanting commitment so much more depth.

Rayna and Neel have chemistry since the first page. There are sparks flying all over the place. I loved the banter between them. They were so cute with each other and they always stood by each other in time of need. I liked how there wasn't any pretense between them. All around I loved their love story.

I loved the supporting cast as well. Rayna and Neel have real issues to work through and seeing them do just that while falling for each other was a pleasure to watch. Adite's writing is really smooth and detailed and I flew through the pages. Trouble Has a New Name should not be missed by any romance lovers out there!

Review- Twelve Hours of Temptation by Shoma Narayanan

Summary-

The best mistake of his life?

Review-

I have read Shoma Narayanan's books before and I really like her writing style so when I got an opportunity to read and review Twelve Hours of Temptation I couldn't let it pass by. Twelve Hours of Temptation was a cute read but it didn't blow me away.

Melissa is a copywriter who has worked hard to get where she is. Her company has been invited for an Awards ceremony in Goa but her fear of flying keeps her from going until her new boss offers to drive her to the event. Now, let me get one thing out of the way, I first thought this book was a road trip romance but it is not. The road trip is for a very short amount of time and that disappointed me a bit.

I liked Melissa as a character. She was young and hard working and fun in her own way. Though I did find her jumping to conclusions at times. While I liked Melissa I can't say the same for our hero, Samir. Samir is shown as a cold, aloof guy. He was all that but when he was with Melissa he warmed up quite a bit. I thought Samir's character lacked real depth and I would have liked to see his actual thoughts where Melissa was concerned.

The romance was a cute one and though the steamy scenes were all fade to black I enjoyed the rapport between Melissa and Samir. I can defnitely say this was more Melissa's story than Samir's because we get all her background. But where Samir is concerned, I wanted to see more facets to his personality. I wanted more reasoning behind why they fell for each other.

Shoma Naraynan's writing is clean and simple and engaging. The book is a short read which can be enjoyable for a few hours. Twelve Hours of Temptation was a typical Mills and Boon romance so if you're in the mood for one I would say grab it.

Review- The One She Was Warned About by Shoma Narayanan

Summary-

There's no such thing as a reformed rebel! 

Shweta thought she would have the whole marriage-and-kids thing sorted by now. But she couldn't be more wrong—her love life's a wasteland! So when she bumps into Nikhil, the bad boy from her past who still sets her pulse racing, she can't resist flirting with danger….

Review-

I enjoy reading Mills and Boon romances from time to time and Shoma Narayanan is a fantastic author. So I was pretty excited to start The One She Was Warned About. I really enjoyed the book. It was a quick read and a few hours well spent.

Shweta has turned thirty. She think her love life should have been sorted by now but the prospects are so not looking good. Then she bumps into Nikhil, the guy she's known through all her childhood. She knows he's a bad boy but she can't resist him. I liked Shweta. She was a typical good girl who cared about others opinions. She was unreasonable at times but that was just how she was.

Nikhil is the bad boy who always got into trouble in school. He would relentlessly tease Shweta about anything under the sun. But years later when he meets her he is pulled into her. I liked Nikhil. He had family issues and not the run of the mill kind. But he was so smitten with Shweta. I loved watching him fall for her.

The romance between Shweta and Nikhil was really nice. What starts as two old friends catching up soon becomes so much more. I loved how in love Shweta was with Nikhil. Though her insecurities did pop up from time to time. I loved how affectionate Nikhil was. He did have his own issues but that didn't stop him from being with Shweta.

Shoma Narayanan writes realistic yet romantic books. The book had a nice pace and I wanted to see Shweta and Nikhil's journey. I flew through the pages within a few hours. The book is slightly predictable but that didn't decrease my enjoyment of it. I liked The One She Was Warned About.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I'm a medical professional who lives in Punjab with my husband, two kids and in-laws. Somehow I fell into writing and after much churning and rechurning out of words, my debut book was released this year. I also turned Professor of Physiology and thus August '13 has become a landmark for me in both my careers. It feels really exciting to have made this far.

2. Describe your book, Bollywood Fiance For A Day in 140 characters or less.

She’s been jilted. He’s a superstar out for fun. He drives her crazy with annoyance till she  discovers that he has vulnerabilities too...

3. How did you decide to write Bollywood Fiance For A Day? What inspired you?

It's hard to pinpoint exactly how it came into my mind. I was writing a story for the Passions contest held by Harlequin. I had this mental image of a girl who is facing an actor under the glare of cameras and is scared of them. Then the background of another story in which the heroine had been jilted merged into this and poof! I had the heroine true to life in my mind. I sent in the story and luckily I won the contest! Along with other prizes, came an opportunity to develop the story into a novel. Zaheer, the hero, zoomed into focus when I penned his first dialogue in response to Vishakha's accusation :'You're late!' Instead of being apologetic he's totally in control and laid back about it as he says 'By almost two hours.' I knew that moment on, he was going to get Vishakha's back up and irritate her no end. So he did...but he also realized he had met his match in this girl.

4. Have you always been a Mills and Boon fan?

Pretty much. Though I left reading when I got in job and then getting married and having kids kept me busy so there wasn't much time to read. I picked up reading again some years back and I was surprised at all the new lines and genres that hadn't there during my time. The covers and the writing is much more glamorous too since then.

5. How much of your characters are based on real life people?

Initially I may draw inspiration from real people. But as the characters come into their own with their specific goals and motivation, they become their own person. Then, like a satellite, they are detached from the initial trigger and are revolving in their own world. *smile*

6. What are the must have qualities in a hero for you?

Well, integrity for one. Then a sense of humour. He should stand for his beliefs and be protective of those he loves. Being good looking doesn't hurt either!

7. Who are your favorite romance authors?

Georgette Heyer. Penny Jordan. Michelle Conder. Oh many more.

8. What are your current favorite reads?

I recently read Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook and I found it very moving.In Harlequin, I enjoyed Staking claim by Tessa Radley. I've been rereading Sidney Sheldon's works. The onset of winters also makes me think of reading historicals for some reason and I'm looking forward to reading an Agatha Christie when I can lay my hands on one.

9. What can we look forward to next from you?

For the moment more romantic reads! My second book 'You Can't Fight A Royal Attraction' is coming out in December. A story has been accepted for publication in an anthology from Harper Collins India. I'm currently working with my editor on third book idea.

Both, with a little bit more of Hollywood!

Again both, but more of paperback.

Night. Though I usually have to miss out my most active time because I have to get up early for work.

‘Your sense of humour is about as good as your punctuality,’ she snapped.

‘But your looks are better than your temper,’ he drawled.

‘Ah, and you need—’ he cocked a dark eyebrow ‘—a crane to lift the chip on your shoulder.’

She glared at him, stymied for an instant. The chip…yes, she did have a chip.

She’d thought she’d left it home.

A cluster formed around Zaheer and several voices clamoured for his attention, microphones waving in the air. The media closed in on the actor for comments. Left alone, her thoughts turned towards her own troubles again.

The misery she’d been battling for the last week tightened on her heart. Damn it, she didn’t want to think of it. Her mind kept wallowing in the might-have-beens. She’d thought the buzz of this visit to Mumbai, the glitter of being at this glamorous event would lighten her angst. But it closed in on her with the irresistible force of monsoon clouds blocking out the bright Indian summer sun.

About the author:

A procrastinator piously working at reformation, author with a zany routine, slightly harried mother of two with a smug hubby, who always manages to get the better of me (must work on my come-backs more!) I love to write intense in emotion, tender stories. When not bent double over the laptop, I might be found with my nose in books or munching nachos at the movies or glued to the telecast of Team India in action.
