Review- Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

Summary-

Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.

Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but Anna, the ultimate good girl, has always had the advantage of her angel side to balance the darkness within. It isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

Review-

I had Sweet Evil on my to be read pile since quite some time now. It has a gorgeous cover with an intriguing summary and it seemed like everyone loved it. I don't know why I put off reading it for so much time but when the Sweet Evil Read Along was hosted by Magical Urban Fantasy Reads I decided that it was a great opportunity to read this.

I have totally mixed feelings about this book. Some things worked in its favor while the others just didn't. Sweet Evil is the story of Anna. She is a young and innocent girl who has extraordinary senses and powers. She likes to keep to herself and stays away from all things bad. Then she meets Kaidan and discovers that she is a part angel while he is a demon.

The concept of this book was very unique. I loved getting to know about the demon Dukes which are formed because of the seven deadly sins which consist of Pride, Envy, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust and Wrath. The whole demon angel history had an interesting take on it and the story flowed smoothly.

What I had a problem with was Anna. She came off as a too goody two shoes. Sometimes I felt she was too self centered and judge mental about people. She came to various conclusions on her own without knowing or understanding the reality of the situation. Kaidan is the drummer boy and he is supposed to be the son of Duke of Lust. He's supposed to be a playboy with a British accent seducing girls left and right. But he can't help being pulled in by Anna's angel allure.

The romance between Anna and Kaidan was way too fast moving for me. Anna's behavior combined with Kaidan running hot and cold every two seconds made me dislike the characters. Sweet Evil has a great story with an interesting concept. Its definitely not a bad book. But over all taking all things into consideration some things just didn't sit right with me which makes it an okay read for me.

Cover Reveal: Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins (The Sweet Trilogy #2)
Publication: April 30 2012

Summary-

Anna Whitt, daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a claim. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

This cover is just as gorgeous as that of Sweet Evil. It has a more darker feel to it. Sweet Evil was an okay read for me but I will be reading Sweet Peril because I really want to know what happens next with Kai and Anna. The third book in the series is called as Sweet Reckoning and it is slated for a 2014 release. What do you think of it?
