She’s running from the law, and the law wants her bad.
The opportunity was just too damn delicious for Ginger Peet to pass up. The purse full of money she finds—$50,000 to be exact—could give her and her teen sister the new start they need. So she grabs the cash, her gothy sibling, and their life-sized statue of Dolly Parton, and blows outta Nashville in a cloud of dust. Chicago, here we come...
Turns out, Chicago has some pretty hot cops. Hot, intense, naughty-lookin’ cops like Derek Tyler, who looks like he could eat a girl up and leave her begging for more. And more. Tempting as he is, getting involved with the sexy homicide lieutenant next door poses a teensy problem for a gal who’s on the lam. But one thing is certain—Derek’s onto her, and he wants more than just a taste.
And as far as he’s concerned, possession is nine-tenths of the law.
Review-
Protecting What's His by Tessa Bailey is a hot contemporary romance by the Brazen Line of Entangled Publishing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It has everything which I enjoy in a book- romance, humor, action and a pinch of sarcasm. It is not a very long book still it managed to completely pull me in.
Ginger is a 23 year old who has a horrible negligent mother. When she finds $50,000 with her mother sprawled across the floor she takes her sister Willa to start a new life out of Nashville in the hopes of never looking back. I loved Ginger. She was sweet and fun and fierce. Her love and protectiveness for her sister was commendable. Yet we manage to glimpse into the vulnerable side of her.
Then comes in Derek Tyler. He's a cop and lives in the same building as Ginger. He knows something is missing in Ginger's story but even he can't deny the insanely hot attraction between them. Derek was a total alpha hero. He was possessive, hot and overprotective. He could be mean when he wanted. It was awesome to see the way Ginger drove him crazy sometimes.
The romance was hot. The sexual tension between Ginger and Derek goes throughout the book. I loved how Derek continues to break down Ginger's walls. Both of them were stubborn in their own way but I loved their banter. The couple was realistic. Each one had to overcome their own obstacles and accept their feelings for each other. The love story was thoroughly satisfying with numerous steamy scenes.
I also loved Ginger's sister Willa. Her sarcastic comments had perfect timing and made me grin. Her subplot with Evan was cute. Tessa Bailey writes an engaging story. You feel like you're there with Ginger and Derek all along. The action was well portrayed. I will definitely be reading more from this author. All fans of romance should give Protecting What's His a try.

TOP 10 MUST READS FOR ROMANCE LOVERS:
I am going to be all over the
place, here. I’m answering with my current
top ten, as in right this very second. And I know the second this is posted, I
will think of ten completely different novels I neglected to include. Mostly,
these are the books that I’ve been effected by most recently.
Strangers by Barbara Ellsburg
This book killed me. I thought about it for weeks afterward, moping around, missing the characters. Very dark and angsty, which is what I like!

Lothaire by Kresley Cole
So crazy sexy, I don’t think I moved from the couch until I finished it. Lothaire, alpha-male extraordinaire. Waited forever for his book!

The Dark Highlander by Karen Marie Moning
I could probably make a top ten list just out of her books alone, but this one stuck with me. The hero in this book is my favorite of the highlander series

Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec
Easily my favorite book read over the last year. Laugh out loud funny with a dreamboat hero. The plot is super romantic, too

The Prize by Julie Garwood
A sentimental favorite. I love all her books. They’re little fairy tales that come out once a year and it always feels like Christmas morning.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman Everyone loves this movie and can probably
quote it word for word. But the book is even better! I read it in high school
and discovered all these new twists and turns that weren’t in the movie. Ahhhh
Westley
On Dublin Street by Samantha Young
I am gagging for the next installment in this series. So sexy, twisty and emotional. Loved every damn page

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
This book sent me on a “new adult” reading binge for months. I mean, a boxer, a poker player, a trip to Vegas, Travis Maddox…I couldn’t put it down.

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
I had to add this one – it’s one of the most romantic stories of all time and Rhett Butler is the definition of “alpha male.” Double swoon.

Woohoo, that cover is hot! And damn the story inside sounds really interesting. The characters name 'Ginger' is so much fun, but it always reminds me of an episode of Southpark. Anyway, great you liked it.
ReplyDeleteROmance, humor and sarcasm sounds like a perfect mix. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for review putting it on my radar.
