Review- Hold on Tight by Abbi Glines

Summary-

Review-

Dewayne has been my one of my favorite since the beginning of the Sea Breeze series so I was really excited for Hold on Tight. Maybe I had expected too much out of him or what, I don't know but his book was a disappointment for me. It wasn't all bad but it wasn't as good as some of Abbi's previous books.

Six years ago, Dewayne's life changes when his brother Dustin died of a car accident which Dewayne thinks is his fault. Since then he has been drowning in drinks and girls knowing he would never measure up to his brother. Where did the smart ass, witty Dewayne go?! Where?! This Dewayne was an idiot, sending mixed signals. His reasons were really insufficient and I felt there was a severe lack of depth.

Sienna had loved Dustin but she had worshiped Dewayne. Now she's back in town with her son, Micah trying to live a better life for him. I had initially liked Sienna but as the story progressed I found her to be a bit dumb. Her innocence was really unrealistically portrayed and for a single mother she was stupidly naive. 

The romance between Dewayne and Sienna was not even really a romance. He keeps on saying he doesn't to relationships but he keeps coming back to her. Sienna did not have a strong personality. I didn't understand her. Dewayne and Sienna had chemistry but the lack of communication was apparent. The conflict wasn't strong enough for the story.

BUT I did like a few things. Sienna's son, Micah was a sweet heart. He was the cutest kid and seeing that we didn't have any kids in the previous books it made for a refreshing change. I also liked the tiny glimpses of the remaining couples we get to see how they're doing. All in all, Hold on Tight was an okay read.

Review- Bad For You by Abbi Glines

During a party at his apartment, Krit’s new neighbor comes to the door with her long brown hair pulled up in a messy knot and a pair of glasses perched on her cute little nose. She wants him to turn down the music, but he convinces her to stay.

Krit Corbin may have just found his biggest addiction yet. And Blythe Denton realizes too late that she’s finally been claimed.

REVIEW:

I had decided some time ago that I wouldn't begin my reviews with the following three words, but let me just break my own rules and go ahead and say it- oh my God! What a book! I absolutely adore Abbi Glines' Sea Breeze series. It's one of the few New Adult Contemporary series that I actually follow and look forward to. Although the previous book was a major disappointment, I loved Bad For You so much. The story of Blythe and Krit, Bad For You is an adorable and lovely twist to and take on the regular bad boy meets good girl romance. 

The nicest aspect of Bad For You was that the romance didn't begin till some 50%. Till that point, the protagonists were just friends and even though they were attracted to one another, they knew their boundaries and limits. It's not everyday that we meet New Adult main characters who don't kiss each other and get under the sheets as soon as they meet or within a few days of when they meet. It's also not everyday that these same characters actually indulge in some meaningful conversation and try to genuinely get to know each other. Oh, and another one, it's also not everyday that these characters give each other and their potential relationship all the time that it takes to make it work. 

Krit. Krit, Krit, Krit. I don't know how she does it every time, but Abbi Glines has made me fall in love with yet another one of her bad boys. I hate how these boys have sex with many girls and throw them away left, right and centre but when their girl even as much as talks to another guy, all hell breaks loose. It annoys me to no end and yet, I can't really help but admire how the guy changes from this bad ass dude to a caring and sensible man. I had nothing but pure disgust towards Krit in the previous books of the series, but after giving him a chance and getting to know him in Bad For You, I have to admit that I adore him. He was adorable in his psychotic ways. He was a great friend with an addictive and sparkling personality. And if that isn't enough, to top it all of, the dude's a singer. 

Blythe was perfect for Krit. She was the exact opposite of him. He craves attention. She tries to blend in. He practically knows the whole town. She barely talks to people. He's experienced. Everything is new for her. Sometimes, I thought that for a girl who loves to read and write, Blythe was way too innocent but then again, her side of the story strongly proves the whys of it. I would have ideally liked to know more about her past, but she herself is willing to let it all go and start afresh. She was a really nice person who needed Krit to show her just how nice she was. 

My most favourite books in the Sea Breeze series have been While It Lasts and Sometimes It Lasts and I am loyal to our male protagonist in these stories, Cage York. But Bad For You has been such an unexpectedly and exceptionally well done story that I can easily say that it's my new favourite. I am very stingy with my ratings these days and it's only because of that that I'm giving this book four very bright, shiny, sparkly and glittery stars. I haven't stopped smiling since I put the book down.

Review- Kiro's Emily by Abbi Glines

Summary-

Review-

Abbi Glines' books always seem to be comfort reads for me. They are easy to read and most of the time take my mind of things with the cheesy romance. So when Kiro's Emily came out I got right to it. While I do think Kiro's Emily was a fairly good novella it was not as good as some other Abbi Glines books.

Kiro is the lead singer of the famous band Slacker Demon. He is rich and spoiled  and completely out of control. I really hadn't liked Kiro when we'd met him in all the previous books but here we get to see him in his true rock star form. Kiro has everything he wants in life fame, women and money but then he meets Emily and something in him changes.

I really liked Emily. She was a sweet and simple girl and had no intention of catching the fancy of Kiro Manning. Like most Abbi Glines heroines she was innocent and pure so that the hero is completely smitten at first sight. And that is exactly what happens with Kiro and Emily. I liked the chemistry Kiro and Emily shared and it was nice to see a more human side to Kiro.

Kiro's Emily has a bittersweet ending which was a little sad to read. But things are the way they are. There were just issues I had with Kiro's behavior which at times made me feel like I was reading about two different people. One from the previous books and one in Kiro's Emily. Kiro's Emily was a quick and light read.

I placed my palms on the brick wall on either side of her head and stopped only an inch from our bodies touching. “What do I have to do to get you to get this? What, Trisha? The tip of her pink tongue wet her bottom lip and I was lost.

Review- Rush Too Far by Abbi Glines

REVIEW:

New Adult and I have been in an on again/ off again relationship since the past few months. After a series of predictable and mediocre reads, I had decided to take a break from NA. I wasn't even the least bit interested in Rush Too Far, which is Fallen Too Far, from one of my top ranked book boyfriend, Rush's point of view. But then I thought, this is Rush. The guy I can't stop talking about. I mean, come on. I had to read his book and boy, I am so glad I did!

First off, I have to start by saying that Rush Too Far is such an apt and pretty title for Rush Finlay's book. It's just perfect. Although I am not the biggest fan of the guy on the cover (I much rather prefer the picture of the guy on Rush's Twitter account), he could just grow on me and keeping all the stuff I don't approve of aside, I adore his tattoos and Raybans. Also, his hair colour matches my imagination perfectly.

Secondly, the story. The story isn't anything different. It's just Fallen Too Far, the first book in Abbi Glines' Too Far or Rosemary Beach series, from the male protagonist's point of view. The author sure knows her female readers (I don't know about the males, because I don't know any male who has read her books) blush and drool when it comes to Rush and how the Rush Crush wave has washed us all with its adorableness, cuteness, hotness and sexiness. And that's what this book gives us. Rush was his usual adorable, cute, hot and sexy self and honestly, he is way too good to be true. The way he looks at Blaire is just too cute. 

While Rush Too Far gives the reader a look into Rush Finlay's head, it made me (after having recently written a paper on feminism), look at him with a very different perspective. His possessiveness, his caveman instincts, his need to claim Blaire, his desire to have a say in what she does and wears, got a little too much for me. But the thing about New Adult reads that I have figured out is that you have to keep your brains aside because they have many flaws that can be looked at and examined critically. Whatever that may be, Abbi Glines' books are an excellent escape for a few hours.

I really enjoyed this light and sweet read that made me realise how much I had missed Rush. I can't say that my faith in NA has been reinstated, nor can I promise that I'll read all books under the genre from now on. What I can say, instead, is that I will give the books in series that I have previously loved, a chance. Who knows? Like Rush Too Far, they might prove to be a nice little change from the current heavy reads I find myself opting for.

“It has been a long time. Why are you here?” I replied, not taking my eyes off Dewayne. He was still larger than life. More so than when I was a teenager. He wasn’t just the nice guy who had been my friend when I was younger. He was also a man who had abandoned me when I’d needed someone the most. Even if he was delicious and what female fantasies were made of, I would never forgive him. Dustin had adored him, yet Dustin’s son didn’t even know him.

He cocked an eyebrow at me, as if he was surprised by my reaction to him. “Came over to see who the new neighbors were. Beat-to-shit car parked out front concerned me. Neighborhood’s not what it used to be.”

Once I wouldn’t have been able to look past his perfectly chiseled face and full lips to get angry with him. That wasn’t the case any longer. My hands fisted at my sides, and I wanted nothing more than to punch him in the nose. I owned that car. I had worked hard to buy that car.

“I’ll keep that in mind. I can assure you we’re not going to cause any problems,” I replied, walking over to the door and putting my hand on it to let him know I was done with this visit and wanted him to leave.

Dewayne frowned, and his dark eyes, which in my dreams had looked at me like he had today when I’d walked into the room, were now narrowed. Great, I’d managed to piss off the massive, monster-size man who could knock me down with one hard puff. “Where did that sweet girl I used to know go? You lose her somewhere?” Dewayne’s voice was even, but the low, menacing sound to it bothered me.

What did he expect me to do? Bat my eyelashes at him and swoon like I had when I was a kid? “She learned to toughen up and trust no one.” I gripped the door, fighting the urge to slam it in his face. Because I was pretty sure he could rip it off its hinges if provoked. “Thanks for stopping by. Now that you know we aren’t about to dirty up the neighborhood with our presence, you can go on back to your parents’ place. We’re fine here.” I started closing the door. Dewayne stepped back. To my surprise, he turned around, then started walking away.

Review- Misbehaving by Abbi Glines

Review-

I was a little bit worried before starting Misbehaving because I was so not a fan of Jess or Jason from the previous books. The book started off good for me. Maybe it was just because I was reading an Abbi Glines book after a long while, maybe it was me. But after I was halfway through the book, I did not like how things went.

Jason is Jax Stone's younger brother. We'd met him in the first book Breathe. He's always been living under his brother's shadow and when he comes to Sea Breeze all he wants is a break from life. Okay, first I liked Jason thinking he was the shy and quiet hero but as the book went his actions became dumb. Another point was all the hostility towards Jax. When did Jason suddenly start hating his brother? I didn't get it.

Then we have Jess. She's the local bad girl. Jess has lived a hard life with her mom who works as a stripper. After being in an awful on/off relationship with Hank, now all she wants to do is move on. I didn't like Jess from before and here though I kind of got what she was going through I found her stupid. The only times I did like her was when she was being true with her vulnerabilities and insecurities.

There is no doubt that Abbi Glines knows how to write romance. Misbehaving has plenty of steamy scenes in it. But I didn't get the emotional connect between Jess and Jason. Their reason for being together was unclear. I would have liked more depth to their relationship.

Even if the book was good, Jess and Jason really made me dislike them through their actions and the decisions they took which they thought were smart. It took out the overall enjoyment from the book. For an Abbi Glines book, it was a disappointment. I just hope the next book's better.

Review- Simple Perfection by Abbi Glines

Summary-

Review-

Simple Perfection is the much anticipated sequel to Twisted Perfection. Though Twisted Perfection did not end on a major cliffy I was eagerly waiting for Simple Perfection. The reason being Woods, of course. I read the book for him and I loved the book for him.

Woods has a lot of things to deal with. An unexpected tragedy leaves him the sole bearer of the family business. All the things Woods had decided to leave behind for Della come crashing down on him. I loved Woods. Yes, I'm repeating myself but he was amazing. You could feel his devotion to Della. Sometimes, it did result in over protectiveness but his love was unwavering.

Della wants to be strong for Woods. But her issues are even more messed up than his. Della was still the same sweet girl we'd met before, perfectly balancing Woods out. But she had her insecurities. It did get a tiny bit frustrating but when we see her nightmares from before you know how horrifying her past was. It justifies the way she is.

The romance between Della and Woods was beautiful and their bond continues to grow strong. They are vulnerable with each other but their passion burns hotter by each page. They had a mix of tenderness and intimacy. We get to see how everyone else in Rosemary is doing as well.

There were a lot of twists in the second half of the book which I so did not see coming. Unexpected developments take place where Tripp and Grant are concerned. Abbi teases us just enough to make us hungry for the next book. I loved Simple Perfection and can't wait to read what next Abbi has in store for us.
