Review- This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales

This Song Will Save Your Life on Goodreads

BOOK SUMMARY:

Making friends has never been Elise Dembowski’s strong suit. All throughout her life, she’s been the butt of every joke and the outsider in every conversation. When a final attempt at popularity fails, Elise nearly gives up. Then she stumbles upon a warehouse party where she meets Vicky, a girl in a band who accepts her; Char, a cute, yet mysterious disc jockey; Pippa, a carefree spirit from England; and most importantly, a love for DJing.

Told in a refreshingly genuine and laugh-out-loud funny voice, This Song Will Save Your Life is an exuberant novel about identity, friendship, and the power of music to bring people together.

REVIEW:

No matter how many books I read and how much I love experimenting with new genres, I always find myself going back to Young Adult, which is my all time favourite. I just feel that the genre is very pure and raw making it extremely relatable and pleasing. So when I decided to pick up author Leila Sales' This Song Will Save Your Life, I knew I would have a great time reading it, and clearly, I wasn't wrong because this one ended up being just the book that I like to read.

This Song Will Save Your Life is the story of Elise Dembowski, who seems like a normal person on the outside, just like you and I. But only Elise really knows what's going on in her head and she has experienced firsthand how cruel and pathetic the world is even though she's only sixteen. One night, Elise stumbles upon something in a lonely and dark alleyway that turns her life upside down; for better or worse... Well, read the book to find out!

I really liked how Elise's character was portrayed. She did seem very mature for a sixteen year old, but there were many times when her thoughts mimicked mine and I couldn't help but completely agree with her. She was a smart and great person who deserved nothing but happiness. Throughout the book, I was rooting for her. She comes across a couple of people in her life, even though some of the characters were lovely, most of them got on my nerves for the way they were, but Elise's family and friends made for very likeable and pleasant characters.

This was a a very nice coming of age story, but it's also very dark and deep which is why the label of it being for older readers is perfect. Every fan of Young Adult reads will really like this book and will take something back from it. It definitely is like any other YA contemporary, but it is also very unique at the same time because of the way it takes up important issues and shows that no matter what, we win in the end, in our own way.

Waiting on Wednesday #208

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spines, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart
Publiction date- September 5th 2017

Goodreads Summary:

The story of a young woman whose diabolical smarts are her ticket into a charmed life. But how many times can someone reinvent themselves? You be the judge.

Imogen is a runaway heiress, an orphan, a cook, and a cheat.
Jule is a fighter, a social chameleon, and an athlete.
An intense friendship. A disappearance. A murder, or maybe two.
A bad romance, or maybe three.
Blunt objects, disguises, blood, and chocolate. The American dream, superheroes, spies, and villains.
A girl who refuses to give people what they want from her.
A girl who refuses to be the person she once was.

This sounds interesting, and I'm looking forward to read it because I really want to read more books by the author.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

Review-

All or Nothing At All is the final book in Jennifer Probst's Billionaire Builders series. I have read all the books in the series and I enjoyed them. I didn't LOVE any of them but they were good enough reads. The stories are well written and the romance is nice. All or Nothing At All is the story of Tristan and Sydney and the build up of their story was started right from the first book. So while I did enjoy the book it didn't meet all my expectations.

Let's start with Sydney. Sydney has been working for Pierce Brothers Construction right from the beginning. She was an integral part of the family and always felt at home with the Pierce clan. Sydney has also been in love with Tristan since she was a kid. But she's keeping a secret that could tear them apart. I liked Sydney. She was sweet and sassy and she just wanted Tristan's love and affection.

Tristan in the middle Pierce brother. He has always been the peace keeper, the one who keeps his calm. But sometimes he can be too cold and try as he may he can't get Sydney out of his head. Tristan was a good guy but he definitely had his flaws. He viewed Sydney too harshly for her mistakes and he took his time forgiving her.

Sydney and Tristan have a past. They were together when they were young. But when Tristan's mother died the Pierce family fell apart and all Tristan wanted to do was get away from the small town. Even if it meant leaving Sydney behind. The chemistry between Sydney and Tristan was really good. They made for a very compatible pairing and they were genuinely into each other. The timing was wrong before though and they have a lot of obstacles in their path.

I obviously didn't like the secret Sydney kept but then I also didn't like Tristan's behaviour in some parts. I also did not like how the Pierce family alienated Sydney after the secret was out as if the years and years of trust meant nothing. I found Sydney's daughter Becca to be adorable. Jennifer Probst likes romance really well. Though some of the tropes are cliche they seem to work well and it all works out in the end. So while All or Nothing At All was not one of my all time favourites it was still a good enough read.

Blog Tour- All or Nothing at All by Jennifer Probst

“Probst’s final book in her Billionaire Builders Series is a gut-wrenching, intensely emotional, second-chance romance. The fast-paced dialogue vividly details every emotive scene…The stars and little girl costar are unforgettable, and the series tie-up is exceptional.”

Waiting on Wednesday #207

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spines, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

Ready to Run by Lauren Layne
Publication Date: August 22nd, 2017

Summary-

The Bachelor meets The Runaway Bride in this addictive romance novel about a reality TV producer falling for her would-be star: a Montana heartthrob who wants nothing to do with the show.

Jordan Carpenter thinks she’s finally found the perfect candidate for Jilted, a new dating show about runaway grooms: Luke Elliott, a playboy firefighter who’s left not one but three brides at the altar. The only problem? Luke refuses to answer Jordan’s emails or return her calls. Which is how she ends up on a flight to Montana to recruit him in person. It’s not Manhattan but at least the locals in Lucky Hollow seem friendly . . . except for Luke, who’s more intense—and way hotter—than the slick womanizer Jordan expected.

Eager to put the past behind him, Luke has zero intention of following this gorgeous, fast-talking city girl back to New York. But before he can send her packing, Jordan’s everywhere: at his favorite bar, the county fair, even his exes’ book club. Annoyingly, everyone in Lucky Hollow seems to like her—and deep down, she’s starting to grow on him too. But the more he fights her constant pestering, the more Luke finds himself wishing that Jordan would kick off her high heels and make herself comfortable in his arms.

I find LL reads to be cute and quick and romantic.

What are you waiting on? :)
