Review- Kiss the Sky by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Kiss the Sky on Goodreads

 BOOK SUMMARY:

Virgin. Sex addict. Daredevil. Alcoholic. Smartass … Jackass. Her five friends are about to be filmed. Reality TV, be prepared.

Rose Calloway thought she had everything under control. At twenty-three, she’s a Princeton graduate, an Academic Bowl champion, a fashion designer and the daughter of a Fortune 500 mogul. But with a sex addict as a sister and roommate, nothing comes easy.

After accepting help from a producer, Rose agrees to have her life filmed for a reality television show. The Hollywood exec is her last chance to revive her struggling fashion line, and boundaries begin to blur as she’s forced to make nice with a man who always has his way.

Twenty-four-year-old Connor Cobalt is a guy who bulldozes weak men. He’s confident, smart-as-hell and lives with his equally ambitious girlfriend, Rose Calloway. Connor has to find a way to protect Rose without ruining the show. Or else the producer will get what Connor has always wanted—Rose’s virginity.

This New Adult Romance can be described as Friends meets The Real World. Expect fist fights, drugs, sex of varying degrees, crude humor and competitive alpha males. Definitely for mature readers audiences only.

REVIEW:

I'm a fan of the Addicted series. I had read and absolutely enjoyed Addicted to You, Ricochet and Addicted for Now two years ago maybe. For me, the series is very fresh, different and new compared to all the monotonous New Adult books doing the rounds. Unlike said books, I cannot predict what the characters from this series are going to do next. For some reason or the other, I kept putting the rest of the series on hold, until recently, when I finally began Kiss the Sky. And I am so glad I did.

Kiss the Sky is the story of the second eldest Calloway sister, Rose, who, as the book cover perfectly describes, is a "perfectionist, genius and virgin." Previously, I liked how Rose has always been strong and and super protective about her sisters. Her perfectionism was admirable. A cleanliness freak, a thorough feminist and a feisty fighter, Rose's head was fun to get into. There were times when- especially the more explicit material- which made me question Rose's character.

Then we had Connor to perfectly balance out her urge to dominate. I had only heard fantastic and fabulous things about Connor Cobalt (thanks to Mrs. Cobalt aka Siiri @ Little Pieces of Imagination). I don't remember much of how he was before, but I bet he was good, as he only got better and better in this book. A perfect match for Rose, Connor too is a genius. His intelligence did turn me on. There were times when- and yes again, especially the more explicit material- when Connor seemed like a smart and intellectually pleasing version of Christian Grey, but even I know that comparison is unnecessary. This book is very much adult, in my opinion, with an erotic and BDSM dimension.

Together, Rose and Connor were far more than just a couple. They were a team of two strong, like-minded, intelligent and responsible individuals who put their group of family and friends before anyone else. It was nice to see the two maintain poise even when they were mentally disturbed and shocked by the current happenings of the situation where the characters (Lily, Loren, Rose, Connor, Daisy and Ryke) were part of a reality TV show. Now the whole reality TV show concept was neither new nor fascinating for me. But just the fact that all these amazing guys who I've grown to love were together made it enjoyable. Somewhere along the way, Kiss the Sky became everyone's book, rather than just Rose and Connor's.

Even though Kiss the Sky is Rose and Connor's story, someone stood out far more than the two of them, for me at least. Even though I adore Rose and Connor's grammar nazism and it made me silently moan with pleasure, the person whose vocabulary that turned me on the most and that's the closest to mine is Ryke. He is fucking amazing! I cannot wait to read Daisy's and his story in Hothouse Flower. I can already tell that they are going to be my favourite couple. I still love Lil and Lo (who doesn't?), but Daisy and Ryke will be something else entirely.

The length of my review brings me to the length of the book, which is a problem I have. And the books just keep getting bigger. It doesn't stand as a grant issue though, it only takes me time to read long books. It's really fun to spend time with these six amazing people who seem like your own by the end. Kiss the Sky did start out slow and it took me a lot of time to get into it, but at last, it was  all worth it, especially after the sweet and sexy epilogue. And it did, after all, help me cope with my reading slump.

Review- Hothouse Flower by Krista and Becca Ritchie

In honour of the release of Raisy's Long Way Down last Friday! ♥

Goodreads Summary:

Ryke Meadows, meet Daisy Calloway ... she’s all grown up.

Twenty-five-year-old Ryke Meadows knows he’s hard to love. With a billion-dollar inheritance, a track-star resume, and an alpha-male personality—he redefines the term likable asshole. But he’s not living to make friends. Or enemies. He just wants to free climb three of the toughest mountains in Yosemite without drama or interruption.

And then he receives a distressed call from a girl in Paris—a girl that he has never been allowed to have.

Daisy Calloway is eighteen. Finally. With her newfound independence, she can say goodbye to her overbearing mother and continue her modeling career. Next stop, Paris. Fashion Week begins with a bang, and Daisy uncovers the ugly reality of the industry. She wants to prove to her family that she can live on her own, but when everything spirals out of control, she turns to Ryke to keep her secrets.

As Daisy struggles to make sense of this new world and her freedom, she pushes the limits and fearlessly rides the edge. Ryke knows there’s deep hurt beneath every impulsive action. He must keep up with Daisy, and if he lets her go, her favorite motto—“live as if you’ll die today”—may just come true.

REVIEW:

Wow. This is, by far, my most favourite book in the Addicted/ Calloway Sisters series. Since we first met Ryke, I've always known that he was a great guy. As I went further into the series, he was just getting better and better. His vocabulary matched mine perfectly and I loved that about him. I was so excited to read his book and I can safely say that I have been mind-blown. Hothouse Flower isn't my only favourite. Ryke is my favourite guy. Daisy is now my favourite Calloway sister. Raisy are my most favourite couple.

Now I know that there are people who love Lily and Loren. I do too. I also know people who are mad about Rose and Connor. I am too. But the intensity with which I like them is not the same as I loved Daisy and Ryke. I have had my eyes set on them since they met for the first time, and I am so happy that their story totally rocked. Speaking of the story, I don't want to say much because there is a lot that happens. What I do know now for sure is that authors Krista and Becca Ritchie have a way of bringing in drama at the perfect time which kept me at the edge of my seat throughout my reading of this book. That is pure skill.

In Hothouse Flower, we get into the heads of Daisy Calloway and Ryke Meadows. Daisy is the wild child of the family, and Ryke is just as adventurous. Daisy is truly a hothouse flower as Ryke rightly calls her. The chemistry between the two was always evident to me, and in their own book, the pages were literally on fire with the ever exploding sparks between the two. They worked out their relationship really well. I love how they balance each other out so well, and the most admirable part is that they both have issues which were well addressed by the talented authors. But then again, KBR doing it right isn't a surprise.

I am seriously out of words. I have loved this book so much. As always, it's not just about the main couple in focus, but about the lovely six people who are family. There's so much more to Hothouse Flower than just Raisy, some of which came as a shock to me, while the rest was obvious. But Ryke really stood out for me. Hello, new book boyfriend! I would end by saying that Hothouse Flower is a lovely book full of surprising drama, enticing twists, interesting relationships, zigzagging plot, marvellous writing and most importantly, a satisfying and impressive story.

RYKE & DAISY’S TOP TEN TV SHOWS THEY MARATHON TOGETHER

On rainy days, Ryke & Daisy enjoy snuggling on their bed and marathoning television shows. Sometimes they’ll flip through channels and pick a show—other times they’ll watch them on Netflix. Whatever the case, these are their Top Ten Favorites to binge-watch together!

#10 XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS

Ryke loves action-packed, adventure shows, and Xena fits everything that captures his attention for long periods of time. Daisy loves strong female heroines with super best girl friends like Gabrielle is to Xena. Badass women fighting evil—Daisy is game.

#9 VIKINGS
 photo tumblr_nm92w3DulM1tdy0nco1_500_zpsiusrib2t.gif
Daisy spaces out a lot at all the in-depth history parts, but when the Viking women and men come on screen—with their lovely braids and brute strength and spirituality—Daisy is zoned in. Ryke listens to the plot a little more than Daisy, but he loves her commentary about braids and fur.

#8 THE AMAZING RACE

They spend almost the entire time talking about which one of them would compete which challenge and if they’d be good at the detours and road blocks.

#7 CHICAGO FIRE

Daisy spaces out a lot during Chicago Fire—unless they’re fighting the fires or saving people from wrecked cars and drainage ditches. Ryke actually likes the relationship dynamics, and he’ll catch up Daisy on sub-plots.

#6 OUTLANDER

 photo tumblr_ncbssrx71X1s90pjno1_500_zpstu2xr4fj.gif

Daisy loves the scenery and the accents and the hot Scottish men. Ryke watches Daisy get into the show more than the actual show. Lots of Raisy flirting happens during Outlander marathons.

#5 THE WALKING DEAD

 photo tumblr_n0roisAokk1rzvnudo1_400_zpsplsgkeok.gif

ZOMBIES. WANDERING IN THE WOODS! Enough said.

#4 LOST

One of their favorite shows they’ve ever watched together. Daisy had no idea what was going on half the time, but she loved every second. Ryke even rewound scenes, just to piece things together. He was that invested.

#3 MOUNTAIN MEN

Ryke’s second favorite show. He will watch reruns when it airs. Daisy loves how much he loves these old mountain men.

#2 ULTIMATE SURVIVAL ALASKA

 photo tumblr_n0ydmpqXJ11qatuw0o2_250_zpsurmxmvtt.gif

Ryke’s #1 favorite show. Daisy loves it because it’s also an adventure competition, so they both like to guess who’ll win each race.

#1 NAKED AND AFRAID

Daisy’s favorite show! Ryke will watch this with her almost every time they turn on the television. They’ve seen episodes multiple times, and sometimes, if it helps Daisy fall asleep, he’ll turn on the television and have Naked and Afraid playing in the background. True love.

REVIEW:

*NOTE: We (The Readdicts) received a copy of Addicted For Now by Krista and Becca Ritchie in exchange for an honest review. We thank YA Bound and the authors for the book!

Oh, how I am loving this series! I loved every bit of Addicted For Now just as much as I loved Addicted To You and Ricochet. I've already overused the words different, fun and refreshing in my reviews of the first book and the novella which is why I find myself falling short of more adjectives to describe this- let me just go ahead and say it again- different, fun and refreshing series. And now I'll try to use new words now.
The Addicted series is comprised of a bunch of fantastic characters who have grown so much on me that I've already started missing them. Luckily for me, I read the books almost back to back but what's going to be a test is waiting for the next books to come out. Even when Lily and Loren are the main characters with an addiction to sex and alcohol respectively, I find the side characters so much more fun to read about. Don't get me wrong, I love Lil and Lo and I am so proud of them both to have taken their recovery seriously and the positive results were amazing to see. There was a lot of drama and a ton of issues in Addicted For Now which were absolutely necessary and they were handled so well by everyone. I loved seeing Lil and Lo's love grow more and more with every little thing that tried to tear them apart and what I loved seeing even more was how their friends helped them throughout.
Lily's sisters Rose, Daisy and their most elder sister Poppy were super supportive and the bond between the sisters was strong and very nicely portrayed. Each Calloway is crazy yet super charming in their own way. While the parents from both (or should I say all?) sides seemed pretty untroubled and careless but it was good to know that in spite of messed up parent-children relationships, everyone seemed to get along with life. There was lot going on in this one and it was all slowly and steadily revealed. My most favourite characters in this series, however, are Connor Cobalt and Ryke Meadows. Those boys are fucking awesome! I felt so much of admiration and sadness towards Ryke in this book. He's just amazing.
Addicted For Now was a supremely great read that was a little longer in terms of length than what I normally prefer, but luckily the story had a nice pace and never seemed even a bit dragged. At first, I only thought that the series has the potential to become my most favourite New Adult series but now I can confidently say that it's definitely one of the best NA series I've read.

Review- Ricochet by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Goodreads Summary:

As a sex addict, Lily Calloway must do the impossible. Stay celibate for 90 days.

Cravings and fantasies become her new routine, but while Loren Hale recovers from his alcohol addiction, Lily wonders if he’ll realize what a monster she really is. After all, her sexual compulsions begin to rule her life the longer she stays faithful to him.

Progress. That’s what Lily’s striving for. But by trying to become closer to her family—people who aren’t aware of her addiction—she creates larger obstacles. When she spends time with her youngest sister, she learns more about her than she ever imagined and senses an unsettling connection between Daisy and Ryke Meadows.

With Lily and Lo’s dysfunctional relationship teetering and unbalanced, they will need to find a way to reconnect from miles apart. But the inability to “touch” proves to be one of the hardest tests on their road to recovery. Some love brushes the surface. Some love is deeper than skin.

Lily and Lo have three months to discover just how deep their love really goes.

REVIEW:

I absolutely enjoyed the first book in the Addicted series, Addicted To You, my review of which can be read here. In a genre that seems to be getting very monotonous and predictable, it was a very different and refreshing New Adult read. After having read Ricochet, a full length novella, I think that the series can easily become a favourite of mine. Ricochet starts out right from where Addicted To You ended on an open ending note.
Loren is away from Lily and he's actually doing really good at rehab. It's Lily who has the problem now as Lo asked her to wait for him and she can't wait  for her best friend and boyfriend to get back as she gets too desperate to have sex sometimes and she misses him emotionally too. Nonetheless, she starts seeing a therapist as well and I loved seeing both Lil and Lo take their problem in their own hands and walk down the path of recovery.
I've said this before but I have to say it again. For a book that takes up two serious issues, just like it's prequel, Ricochet was a fun and enjoyable read. I found myself laughing out loud many times and side characters like Lil's sisters, Lo's half brother, their families and some people and incidents from their past, made Ricochet a story that's beyond just self recovery, it was group recovery. At some intervals, there came up certain past experiences and seeing as the novella takes place over a span of some three/ four months, the additional scenes added a lot more content and interest.
I also loved the new pairings which seem so cute and fantastic. I can't wait for Rose and Connor and Daisy and Ryke's stories. They're all a bunch of fun people who have issues that they prefer to solve together by helping each other out and being there for one another. While I did miss Loren in Ricochet, I loved how his absence has actually made him and Lil realise how much they love and need each other.
Ricochet was an highly amazing read and this series is supremely addictive in the best way possible.
