Review-

Lisa Kleypas is the queen of historical romance. I will read whatever she writes, there is no doubt about that. Marrying Winterborne is the second book in her Ravenels series. I adored all the new characters we were introduced to in Cold Hearted Rake, the first book in the series but I was even more excited for Rhys and Helen's story. Its safe to say I was not disappointed in the least. I really enjoyed Marrying Winterborne.

Let's start with the hero as the title of the book suggests, Marrying Winterborne. Rhys Winterborne is Welsh who is now the owner of the largest departmental stores across the country. He has definitely come a long way from being a commoner. Now the only thing he wants is to be included in the upper circle of English society and marrying Helen will do that. It doesn't help that he's helplessly falling for her. I really liked Rhys. He was ruthless where needed but his feelings for Helen were true.

Helen has always been the most shy in all of her sisters. She comes off as timid to others and that is one of the reasons many think her match with the brash Rhys Winterborne is not right. But Helen is a strong person underneath her shyness. She is thoughtful and loving and kind and she finds adventure with just being with Rhys. I loved how open Helen was with her feelings towards Rhys. She balanced him out perfectly.

Rhys and Helen may not seem perfect on paper but they balanced each other out. Helen understood Rhys' need to be included in English society and Rhys only wanted to give Helen every thing she's ever dreamed of. Everything was going so perfectly well that I wondered what exactly was going to be the conflict in the book. But never doubt Lisa Kleypas. There were interesting turn of events which keeps you engaged throughout the book. Lisa Kleypas heroes are something of a beauty, that's for sure.

I also loved seeing Devon and Kathleen doing so well. They were adorable together and they deserved all the happiness in the world. I also loved seeing the twins, Pandora and Cassandra. I can't wait to see how these girls get their happy endings. I'm already beyond excited for Devil in Spring which is the next book and it is about Pandora and the son of one of my favourite couples EVER! Marrying Winterborne was a great read.

Review-

Though I am not a big mythology reader I was looking forward to reading Immortal by Krishna Udayasankar. The summary sounded good and something I hadn't read before plus I always wanted to read something by Krishna Udayasankar and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I did enjoy Immortal as a whole. The writing was amazing. But I did have some issues with it as well. So let's get to it.

So the story starts off with an introduction to Professor Bharadvaj. He is a historian who can find any historical artifact you want for a price. What only a few know is that Professor Bharadvaj is actually Asvatthama- an immortal being who was cursed a long long time ago. I found the Professor's character to be super interesting. Though Professor Bharadvaj was just one of the many identities of Asvatthama it was one he could relate to the most. Asvatthama had so many human qualities and emotions despite being an immortal.

The journey of Professor Bharadvaj starts when Maya comes to him for help in search of the Vajra. It is a historical artifact which may lead them to the discovery of immortality for humans. Joining them in their journey is Manohar, the Professor's friend who helps him in such missions. This journey takes them to several places with loads of action and adventure. They also have to face a ton of difficult enemies and obstacles in their way. I enjoyed the whole action adventure part of the book. Krishna Udayasankar has done a ton of research and it shows. Historical events are melded perfectly with science and reason and it was fascinating to see that.

I had also liked Maya's character in the beginning. She came off as a strong and dynamic woman who could hold her own against the Professor. But sadly for me, her character completely fizzled out for the second half of the book. It just seemed like she was present like a mannequin without a real purpose later on. Another issue I had was that the cover of the book gives away a major spoiler. It is not that difficult to figure out what's going to happen once you start reading because the cover gives it away so easily. 

Those were the two things which really bothered me while reading the book. Other than that the book moved at a steady pace. Like I said before, Krishna Udayasankar's writing is really good. Her research is on point and it is great to dive into this world. I enjoyed Asvatthama's adventures and felt like I was right there with him going through the ups and downs. Immortal was a good read for me.

I actually really enjoyed myself while reading Idol which is the first book in the VIP series by Kristen Callihan. So I was super excited to read Managed which is Scottie's book. We'd met Scottie who is the band manager in the previous book and I was excited about Managed by just reading the excerpt itself. Managed was another great addition to the series and I did thoroughly enjoy myself while reading it.

So like I said before this is Scottie or like the heroine knows him, Gabriel Scott's book. Gabriel comes off as a total hard ass in the beginning. He seems harsh and snobbish and uppity. But Gabriel genuinely is a good person who takes care of the people he loves. He just doesn't know how to express himself and he is not a fan of putting himself out there. But I loved how Gabriel was with Sophie. He was protective yet he showed her his true self along with his vulnerabilities.

Then we have Sophie, our heroine. I loved Sophie. I think she may just be one of my favourite heroines. Sophie was hilarious. She said what was on her mind and she didn't play any games. On the surface she was the exact opposite of Gabriel but she also had her own issues to deal with. I loved how Sophie understood Gabriel and wanted to take care of him for a change.

Kristen Callihan writes amazing friends to lovers stories. I've realised this as Idol and Managed are both based off strongly on the friendships the hero heroines form first. I mean the chemistry is obviously always there. The sparks are flying but the progress the relationship makes is steady and slow burn with a genuine bond of friendship at its core. Sophie and Gabriel were amazing together and I loved them both.

I also loved seeing the entire gang again. Killian and Libby were themselves, completely in love with each other. I also liked getting to know the rest of the band better. I am excited for each of the remaining band memebers' story. I have a feeling Jax is going to be next but my hunch may be wrong. All in all Managed was a great read for me, a feel good book which left me with a smile on my face.

In all this time, I had yet to see Gabriel without a shirt. He hides his body like a pious Victorian, never letting me see anything other than him fully dressed and polished. Now I know why. Had he let me get a glimpse, I might never have been able to form a coherent thought around him.

This man’s chest is a work of art. It’s every fantasy I’ve had about a man’s body made real. I don’t even know how that’s possible, but I’m not about to complain. God, he looks touchable. Olive skin, tight little brownish nipples, a smattering of dark chest hair over the most incredibly honed—

“You’re staring.” His tone is dry.

“Yes, I am.” I drag my eyes up and find his expression bemused.

A thick brow lifts. I try to mimic the look and fail when both of my brows lift as one. His lips twitch in amusement.

He shifts his weight, causing his abs to clench. Good Lord. He’s not some overdeveloped gym worshiper, just solid and strong, that perfect balance between defined musculature and healthy male—

“You’re still staring, Sophie.”

“You think it’s easy looking away from all this splendor?” I ask his belly button, licking my lips when he huffs out a laugh and just a little bit more of his lower abs are revealed, slanting toward the thick bulge of his cock, which is lamentably hidden behind his slacks.

“You’re impossible,” he mutters, though there is humor in his voice. He strolls farther into the room and then practically kills me when he sits in one of the low-slung armchairs. That body, sprawled out on display, those thick, long thighs braced as if to take me in his lap—it’s too much.

I want to straddle him and lick my way from the hollow of his throat to the tip of his cock.

He eyes me as if he knows what I’m thinking, and the air thickens. So many things we left unsaid. I’m remembering his lips now, surprisingly soft, but strong with purpose.

From the way his lids lower, I wonder if he’s remembering things as well. But he doesn’t move. Tension glides over his body and snakes around the room. I feel it in my throat and down my spine. We’re closing up again, retreating.

Slowly, I toe off my shoes and set my gear down, never breaking eye contact. “I was being completely honest,” I tell him. “I see you like this and I want to stare forever.”

He snorts, shaking his head even as he rests his temple on his knuckles. “What do you mean ‘like this’?”

He tenses. It does lovely things to that chest. I focus on his face, mainly to maintain some semblance of decorum.

“You think this is me undone?” he asks quietly.

“It’s a start.” I reach for my camera bag. “Will you let me photograph you?”

There is safety to be found with the camera between us. A way for both of us to hide until we’re comfortable around each other again.

“You’re serious?”

“You sound surprised.” Holding my camera, I sit in the sofa opposite him. “Don’t tell me no one has asked to take your picture before.”

“They’ve asked. I never saw the point.” He shrugs. “I’m not the story.”

You’re my story. You always were.

“This is just for me,” I say instead. “No one else.”

His shrewd gaze pins me. “Why do you want this?”

So I can have a bit of you forever. “Pictures capture moments in time. I want this one—when you finally let me see a sliver of the man behind the clothes.”

His nostrils flare on an indrawn breath, and he slowly lets it out. When he speaks, his voice is a rasp. “Take the pictures.”

EXCERPT-

When Rory came out of the woods, Max really wanted not to care that she was wearing more snow than clothes and shivering, but he couldn’t do it. He watched while with shaking hands she carefully shook off before climbing into the truck. Then she stripped out of her jacket that clearly wasn’t waterproof.

                This left her in a soft off-white sweater that was damp and clinging to her like a second skin. She wore a white lace bra, also damp, and not doing much to hide the fact that she truly was cold. And he was absolutely concentrating on that and how she looked like she needed a hot cheeseburger, and not her nipples, two hard little beads threatening to poke through both the lace and the material of her sweater.

                Had he thought of her as the sweet, girl-next-door type? Maybe if the girl next door was pinup material, because damn. Sitting there with her long waves clinging to her face and shoulders and chest, giving him peekaboo glimpses of her perfect breasts, he couldn’t remember why he didn’t like her and didn’t want to like her.

                “What?” she said, wrapping her arms around herself. “You’ve never seen cold nipples before?”

                Yes, but not ones that made his mouth water to taste. Kiss. Nibble. Suck into his mouth… “Did you see any bears?”

                Rolling her eyes, she pulled a hair tie from around her wrist and used it to contain the wet mass of waves on top of her head.

                He handed her a towel, but she shook her head. “I’m fine.”

                “Yeah, if fine is drenched and cold,” he said. “Take it. It’s not the same one I used on Carl.”

                “I wouldn’t care about that,” she said. “But you might have to stop and put on chains soon and you’ll need a towel for yourself.”

                “We’re not going to need chains,” he said. “I’m in four-wheel drive and we’ve got good tires. Now use the damn towel, you’re dripping all over the place.”

                As he knew it would, this galvanized her into action and she ran the towel over herself in jerky motions. When she was done, she was still shivering, and after a hesitation, she pulled off her damp sweater.

                This left her in a white camisole and aforementioned white lace bra, neither of which were all that significant.

                “You going to stare at me all night or get us back on the road?” she asked coolly.

Review-

I love Jill Shalvis and everything she writes. Her books are comfort reads for me so obviously I picked up One Snowy Night which is a novella set in her Heartbreaker Bay series. Now I have to clarify, the last book I read in her Heartbreaker Bay series which was The Trouble with Mistletoe was kind of a disappointment for me. One Snowy Night on the other hand didn't disappoint me but it didn't blow me away either. 

Firstly, I am not very fond of novellas so I knew I had to keep my expectations low for One Snowy Night. This is the story of Rory and Max. Rory is one of the girls whom we'd met in The Trouble With Mistletoe. She works in a pet shop and is in general trying to get her life together. Rory had a hard past. She had some bad experiences which made her wary to trust anyone. I liked Rory. Once we get her backstory its easy to understand her.

Now Rory needs to get home for Christmas. She wants to fulfil the promise she's made to her family. But she's stuck and her only mode of transportation is Max and his adorable dog. Max and Rory have history from high school and its not the good kind. Max is still holding a grudge but Rory is determined to talk it out with him. I liked Max but I didn't find anything super special about him.

Max and Rory are stuck travelling home together and obviously sparks fly in closed quarters. Finally things are cleared up between them and they start seeing each other for who they are in the present. That also comes with accepting their feelings for each other. I liked Jill Shalvis' writing style but I definitely wanted more time with Max and Rory which was just not possible with a novella format. So overall even though I liked One Snowy Night it was an average read for me.
