Review- xo, Zach by Kendall Ryan

Summary-

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he'd left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty--and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I'm crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that's the only reaction I can get out of you, I'll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I'm falling for you, and I know it's wrong. I know that I'm only supposed to be the adviser to your program and nothing more, but here's the thing. I think you're falling for me too.

Review-

xo, Zach by Kendall Ryan was a book that interested me solely due to its summary. I actually haven't read anything by Kendall Ryan so this was my first foray into the world of her writing. But I have definitely seen Kendall Ryan books around and they definitely pop up on my recommendations on goodreads.

xo, Zach is the story of Zach and Poppy. The book goes from both Zach and Poppy's point of views and I was glad for that. Let's start with Zach. Zach is a professor in a University. He wants to finish writing his novel and maybe move to New York some day. Zach has plans in his life and overall he is a pretty sorted guy. When he meets Poppy at a party she needs him to pretend to be her date for a few minutes.

What happens is that they discover that they have sparks between them. That is until the next day when Zach finds out Poppy is his student. I really liked Poppy. She was not impulsive or one to be swept away by her emotions. Poppy knew she had responsibilities and she couldn't just leave them behind. Poppy's hesitation is what makes the book a more of a slow build romance and that is what I liked about it.

When Poppy and Zach meet the chemistry between them is obvious. Zach is unsure in the beginning about what he wants from Poppy but I liked how he never changed his mind about her. Zach was a steady friend to Poppy and only wanted what was best for her. He actually cared about her thoughts and feelings and I liked him because of it.

xo, Zach is also filled with a bunch of side characters. I liked Zach's mother and we got to see where Zach got his unfiltered side from. I also liked Poppy's friends. They were always there for her. The only complaint I have from xo, Zach is the plot. I'm not going to spoil by giving the conflict away but I have to admit I JUST read a book containing a very similar plot. Which made it repetitive and left no curiosity from me. Overall xo, Zach was an enjoyable read.

  1. I have been wanting to read this book solely because of its summary too! I haven't read any books by Kendall Ryan either but I'm looking forward to pick up this one, although I do have to agree that it doesn't sound very original. Nevertheless, this sounds like something that would be right up my alley!
