Review- Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid

Goodreads Summary:

Five strangers. Countless adventures. One epic way to get lost.

Four teens across the country have only one thing in common: a girl named LEILA. She crashes into their lives in her absurdly red car at the moment they need someone the most.

There's HUDSON, a small-town mechanic who is willing to throw away his dreams for true love. And BREE, a runaway who seizes every Tuesday—and a few stolen goods along the way. ELLIOT believes in happy endings…until his own life goes off-script. And SONIA worries that when she lost her boyfriend, she also lost the ability to love.

Hudson, Bree, Elliot and Sonia find a friend in Leila. And when Leila leaves them, their lives are forever changed. But it is during Leila's own 4,268-mile journey that she discovers the most important truth— sometimes, what you need most is right where you started. And maybe the only way to find what you're looking for is to get lost along the way.

Do you know that feeling you get when all you do is see a book and you want to read it? No need for a summary, no need for ratings, no need for reviews. You just know that you have to read the book, no matter what. Let's Get Lost was one of those books for me. From the minute I saw the book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. There is just something about that cover, which gives one the hint of a rocking road trip, that pulled me towards it. I knew I had to read the book, no matter what.

Let's Get Lost is divided into five parts dedicated to a narration in the point of view of the third person that focuses on the main character of each part. So we start with Hudson, move to Bree, then Elliot and end with Soniya. The common point between all these character and their respective stories is Leila, who is on a road trip to see the Northern Lights. As she goes from one person to the other, she not only leaves a part of her with them by making a place in their heart with her kind and wild personality, but also take a part of them with her as she finally reaches her destination to be showered with the most adorable affection possible.

I really loved the gorgeous writing style as well as the way in which the story was presented. There was just something really magical and simple about each character and their story that kept me engaged. This book was really an escape as I felt that I was right there, with Leila and the friends she makes while she's making them. There was something very real about the book for which, author Adi Alsaid deserves a huge round of applause. A simple story about coming to terms with who you have been, who you are and who you wish to be, Let's Get Lost is a very nice book.

While I have focused mainly on the positives, there have, of course, been negatives as well. I felt it was way too coincidental and slightly uncanny as well that Leila met all those people and no one bothered to know her story, but just kindly accepted her help and whole heartedly told her their story. While the open endings were perfect, the final ending of the book was a disappointment for me. I know there are many readers who devour such endings, but for me, it was, not predictable or obvious or ordinary, but I would settle for boring. Yes, it was boring.

I really loved reading Let's Get Lost. It was an experience. I know thta I loved the presentation and writing, and the story was great too, but not all that dazzling. There was nothing special I can pinpoint about this novel, and perhaps that is what makes it difficult for me to decide my final thoughts. In any case, this book gave me an escape when I read it, and served its purpose.

  1. I wasn't really planning on getting this because the few reviews i had seen weren't all that great but Sarika you have changed my mind. Maybe i'll give it a try.

  2. Sounds pretty good even if was not all that special! I have heard good things about this author's writing before, so I'll have to try them out sometime. And I totally know what you mean by books that overcome you like that and you just feel the need to read them without really knowing anything about them :)

  3. This is a uniquely told story. I loved the separate little adventures and all of the characters that went with them. This book will make you laugh. Not only are the characters funny, but the situations they get into are hilarious. But this book will also break your heart.
    I definitely recommend this book!
