Book Quote(s)- Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

Hi, guys! As you can make out from my review of David Levithan's Two Boys Kissing, I absolutely loved, loved, loved the book. It was my first five stars read of 2014. It's a book that's going to stay with me forever and even though every word the author has written means something to me, I'm really desperate to share a part of the book with you that's had an impact on me. I won't share the whole part that I've highlighted of course, but just a few lines to tease you enough.

So, as part of this time's Book Quotes post, here's what I have for you-

Two Boys Kissing

Ryan asks Avery about the pink hair.

"I know, strange color choice, right? For a boy born as a girl who wants to be seen as a a boy. But think about it- it just shows how arbitrary gender is. Are girls any more pink than boys? Are boys any more blue than girls? It's something that has been sold to us, mostly so other things can be sold to us. My hair can be pink because I'm a boy. Yours can be blue because you're a girl. If you free yourself from all the stupid arbitrary shit, that society controls us with, you feel more free, and if you feel more free, you can be happier."

"My hair's blue because I like blue," Ryan says.

"And mine is pink because I like pink. And I totally didn't mean to lecture you. It just makes me mad. All the stupid arbitrary shit."

"It makes you want to overthrow the world."

"On a daily basis."

Inspiring, right? Now all I ask of you is to go read the book.

That's all. Later, guys!
Thank you for stopping by!

Book Quotes- The Homing Pigeons... by Sid Bahri

Hello, everyone and welcome to 2014! Wish you a very happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous New Year!

Image from the best Harry Potter source ever- Mugglenet

Well, they say that you must start a new year with nice things and that's exactly why I have decided to feature, and I've lost count of the number of times I've done this before, The Homing Pigeons... by Sid Bahri. This book is undoubtedly in both Janhvi's and my list of the best books we've read in 2013. The year that has gone by has predominantly been all about The Homing Pigeons... here at The Readdicts (as you may have observed). There's not much left to say about the book, so I decided, why not go ahead and tease you more by sharing only two absolutely beautiful passages from the book, one from Radhika's and the other from Aditya's point of view. So here we go!

Aditya:

One part of me wanted to express myself - to tell her that I wanted to be with her and to date her. I sometimes imagined myself being married to her. I guess that's how first love is. Yet, the other, saner part of me, said that this was the last day of school. We would go our different ways after the exams were over, in search of our education and a means to a livelihood. In the process, we'd meet people who possibly, would be more interesting. Maybe, they would be interesting enough to fall in love with. The pain lingered on, of not being able to garner the courage to express what I felt for her. I felt the agony of never being able to dance with her to the tunes of old English songs. I felt anguished that even if I met her later in life, I wouldn't be seventeen.

Radhika:

It had happened so long ago, nearly eight years ago and yet, the memories are so fresh, as if it has happened only yesterday. Strangely, what I had thought of as improbable and impossible has happened. I have forgiven him. In the years that went by, time has done what it does best - heal.

Does that make you want to go to the nearest bookstore, hunt for the book and read it? Well, you're all set for now since the second fortnightly giveaway for TWO copies of The Homing Pigeon has begun! Yes, I've added another copy this time as a New Year gift from us to you! So go take part and make this year wonderful by beginning it with this book at your doorstep!

Once again, happy New Year and thank you for stopping by!

Book Quotes- Paradise series by Simone Elkeles

It's been really long since we've done a Book Quotes post. So I decided to make today the day to do just that.

I love Simone Elkeles and all of her books.
While flipping through my Quotes Book, I came across quotes from her Paradise series, which consists of two books, Leaving Paradise and Return To Paradise
I have quite a few lovely quotes from the books, but I'm sharing only two quotes/ conversations since they are the loveliest and should be enough to make you get to the books, if you haven't already.

LEAVING PARADISE:

"Are you following me?" she asks, but doesn't meet my gaze.
"Yeah", I say.
"Why?"
"Honestly?"
She looks at me, her eyebrows raised.
I give her the only honest and true answer I have.
"You're where I want to be."

RETURN TO PARADISE:

"Maggie?"
"Yeah?"
"Thanks."
"For what?"
"For making me feel alive again."

Lovely, right?
I hope you liked reading this.

The links in the introduction above will take you to the Goodreads pages of these superb books!
Happy reading!

Book Quotes- Hushed by Kelley York

Kelley York's Hushed is an emotionally powerful and absolutely beautiful read. Even though I said that I have a love-hate relationship with the book, I lean more towards the love part of it.

Goodreads Summary:

Eighteen-year-old Archer couldn't protect his best friend, Vivian, from what happened when they were kids, so he's never stopped trying to protect her from everything else. It doesn't matter that Vivian only uses him when hopping from one toxic relationship to another-Archer is always there, waiting to be noticed. Then along comes Evan, the only person who's ever cared about Archer without a single string attached. The harder he falls for Evan, the more Archer sees Vivian for the manipulative hot-mess she really is.But Viv has her hooks in deep, and when she finds out about the murders Archer's committed and his relationship with Evan, she threatens to turn him in if she doesn't get what she wants... And what she wants is Evan's death, and for Archer to forfeit his last chance at redemption.

Favourite quotes from Hushed:

There were some really beautiful lines in the book that I am jotting down here!

~What was he without her? What was she without him?

~He wanted to reach out and grab hold of whatever this was between them. This feeling he couldn't put a name to that his mind whispered of desperately.

~"No, I'm asking you to choose between slowly killing yourself, and someone who loves you."- Evan

~He was the monster. No one would miss him. Wasn't he just as unworthy of life as the people whose lives he'd taken?

~Alone had to be better than this. Terrifying, but better.

~"Everyone's had shit in their lives. Some people have it worse than others. But no one can turn you into a bad person, just like no one can turn you into a good one. We're all dealt our hands in life, and how we choose to react is entirely up to us. That's free will."- Evan

Evan has said some of the most beautiful lines!
The last quote about free will is my favourite.

Book Quotes- Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

We are eagerly anticipating the release of the fourth and final book in the Caster Chronicles series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Beautiful Redemption, which comes out on the 23rd of October, 2012. *excited* :D

To celebrate this, we are having a Caster Chronicles Book Quotes Marathon, where I'll share my favourite quotes from the first three books in the series.

The Caster Chronicles consist of the following books:

Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles #1), Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles #2), Dream Dark (Caster Chronicles #2.5) and Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles #3).

The book for today is book #3 from the series, Beautiful Chaos.

Goodreads Summary:

Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's Claiming. Even Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals is affected - and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What - or who - will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?

For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He's being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn't by Lena - and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself - forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn't know why, and most days he's too afraid to ask.

Sometimes there isn't just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there's no going back. And this time there won't be a happy ending.

Quotes:

* While I thought I was learning how to live, I've been learning how to die.
-Leonardo Da Vinci

* I have been bent and broken, but- I hope- into a better shape.
-Great Expectations, Charles Dickens

* For a few minutes, what e had, we knew.

* I wondered if wishing was the same thing as praying. If hoping for something badly enough could make it happen.

* The one thing that doesn't abide by human majority is human conscience.
-To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee

* I guess some decisions are made before you make them.

* 'This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

* "Do you believe in love before first sight, L?"
"Do you believe in love after last sight, Ethan?"

* The one word that would come anyway, whether or not we said it. Good-bye.

* I wasn't much of a poet, but I had the truth, and that was enough.

I will always love you.

Book Quotes- Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

The book for today is book #2 from the series, Beautiful Darkness.

Goodreads Summary:

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

Quotes:

* My house was quiet, which isn't what you want a house to be if you're trying to run away from your thoughts.

* Cuts that run that deep leave scars, no matter what you try to do to heal them.

* There's something about sitting alone in the dark that reminds you how big the world really is, and how far apart we all are. The stars look like they're so close, you could reach out and touch them. But you can't. Sometimes things look a lot closer than they appear.

* I told myself it was because I was too angry, but that was one of those lies you tell when you're trying to convince yourself that you're doing the right thing. The truth was, I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to ask the questions, and I was scared to hear the answers.

Book Quotes- Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

The book for today is book #1 from the series, Beautiful Creatures

Goodreads Summary:
There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Quotes:

* Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that.
- Martin Luther King Jr.

* I didn't want to risk what we had, whatever it was. So why did I think of her every second? Why was I so much happier the minute I saw her? I felt like maybe I knew the answer, but could I be sure? I didn't know and I didn't have any way to find out...

* That didn't stop me from thinking about her or seeing her practically everywhere I tried not to look.

* I was alone, and the only thing worse than being alone was having everyone see how lonely I was.

* What is the opposite of two?
A lonely me, a lonely you.

* It's crazy what you see when you aren't really looking.

* Everyday was like a day out of someone else's life. Nothing had ever happened to me, and now everything was happening to me- and by everything, I really meant Lena. An hour was both faster and slower. I felt like I had sucked the air out of a giant balloon, like my brain wasn't getting enough oxygen. Clouds were more interesting, the lunchroom less disgusting, music sounded better, the same old jokes were funnier, and Jackson went from being a clump of grayish-green buildings to map of times and places where I might run into her. I found myself smiling for no reason, keeping my earphones in and replaying our conversations in my head just so I could listen to them again.
I had seen this kind of thing before.
I had just never felt it.

Book Quotes- The Fine Art Of Truth Or Dare by Melissa Jensen

Book Quotes is a feature we'll be doing once in a while to share some of our favourite book quotes with you all. If you've already read the book and have your own favourite quotes from it, feel free to share them with us!

My pick for our first Book Quotes feature is The Fine Art Of Truth Or Dare by Melissa Jensen
I'd read this book sometime back and it is a very sweet read! If you like short, simple and sweet yet totally sensible, just go for The Fine Art Of Truth Or Dare

Goodreads Summary:

Pretty in Pink meets Anna and the French Kiss in this charming romantic comedy

Ella is nearly invisible at the Willing School, and that's just fine by her. She's got her friends - the fabulous Frankie and their sweet cohort Sadie. She's got her art - and her idol, the unappreciated 19th-century painter Edward Willing. Still, it's hard being a nobody and having a crush on the biggest somebody in the school: Alex Bainbridge. Especially when he is your French tutor, and lessons have started becoming, well, certainly more interesting than French ever has been before. But can the invisible girl actually end up with a happily ever after with the golden boy, when no one even knows they're dating? And is Ella going to dare to be that girl?

Here's a list of all the quotes that I highlighted while reading the book!

  • To love someone so much that you don't care if he loves you back.
  • I couldn't think of any parallel universe where wrapping myself around his knees to keep him in place would be construed as anything other than psychotic.
  • An irrevocably broken heart is beautiful and poetic.
  • Don't you know that the way people see you has absolutely nothing to do with the way you look?
  • It didn't escape my notice that, yet again, I was feeling relaxed around this boy. Yet again, it didn't make me especially happy. How many signs do I need that we are never, ever going to have... anything... before I get it?
  • No. Maybe. I don't know. That's the problem. I... can't trust what I think I know anymore.
  • I figured he had some things to say that I didn't want to hear, and I tried to think if any way I could ask him just not to talk, please, without sounding sullen or slightly insane.
  • Tomorrow comes. Tomorrow brings, tomorrow brings love, in the shape of things.
  • What I really wanted desperately was to know that everything was okay between us. But here's the thing. If you can't ask that question straight out, if you have to wriggle and hint and hope the person will do it for you, you really shouldn't ask.
  • What I wanted, all I wanted, was for him to take those few more steps and fold me onto his coat like he'd done before. I wasn't thinking much beyond that. Maybe because I knew it wasn't going to happen.
That's all I got and I hope you enjoy reading it!
