After reading author Deesha Sangani’s The Diary of My Love, I was looking forward to reading more from her because her character Anushkaa was a level-headed, mature and beautiful person, which was refreshing and good to read about. The Journey of Our Love takes Anushkaa’s story forward. After losing the love of her life before she could even confess her love, she has lost all hope and is in a sad state, when the smart and equally mature and loving Abhimanyu walks into her life.

Just like her previous book, Deesha’s writing in The Journey of Our Love is also simple, beautiful and relatable. While there were times when I felt that there were repetitive situations and conversations and the story didn’t seem to move forward, there were many adorable and extremely grown up instances that made the story interesting and wonderful. Anushkaa and Abhimanyu’s chemistry was hard to miss and filled with hope.

As a life coach, Deesha has very smoothly and organically added life lessons here and there in a manner that doesn’t seem imposing or preachy at all, but rather amicable and with good intent. Overall, The Journey of Our Love was a wonderful read packed with emotions, travel, fun and life lessons.

While I have been reading books by Srishti Publishers for the longest time, I realised recently that I hadn’t read anything by their most popular authors like Preeti Shenoy, Ajay K Pandey and Amit Nangia. When I saw The Girl in the Red Lipstick, however, I was very curious to know more about the story and how author Ajay K Pandey must’ve dealt with the topic of prostitution. I must say that I now kinda understand why he is such a popular writer and so loved among his reader friends.

The Girl in the Red Lipstick is the story of Lalita, Arun and Kajal. While on a book launch trip to Kolkata, Arun suffers from a physical injury and is advised a massage by the hotel staff. When Lalita shows up on his room, more than shocked or even ready, Arun is simply curious to know more about Lalita which leads to a series of beautiful events, a beautiful journey and an even beautiful end.

Author Ajay K Pandey’s writing is simple and really beautiful. He writes about daily, mundane activities in a manner that makes the reader want to know more. Told mostly from Arun’s point of view and sometimes from Lalita and Kajal’s points of views, all in first person, the narration flows smoothly, the writing is simple in a manner that is relatable yet up to a certain good standard and the storytelling is interesting, in that, it keeps the reader engrossed.

I have read quite a few books on prostitution, which have been interesting and enlightening in many ways, but The Girl in the Red Lipstick stands on its own as a more accessible and easy read for many people who could benefit a lot from knowing the lives of people who are humans like you and I at the end of the day.

When I was a teenager, I had downloaded a free copy of Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, but like the many books I have lying on my TBR, I never read it. I have never said anything like this before, but I am glad I didn’t read it then. I firmly believe that like the wand chooses the wizard, sometimes, the book chooses the reader. Some books just come to you at the right time. The Prophet is one of those books for me. I don’t know what I would have understood had I read it as a teenager, but when I read it now, I could connect to the book.

One of the most beautifully written and lyrical works, reading The Prophet is like meeting a part of yourself that you seem to have lost somewhere. Gibran, although a Christian, was influenced by Islam because of his fellow countrymen, which worked wonderfully for me, because I am quite inclined towards reading and understanding Islam in general. Not a religious book by any means, The Prophet in more spiritual in its essence, in that it gives the reader a deeper understanding of something simple, but it has so much clarity, meaning and truth to it that your perspective towards a bunch of things is bound to take a leap.

Considering where I am on my personal journey right now, The Prophet is a book I will henceforth hold dear and might even refer to here and there. The other works are just as amazing- if not more. Some of the lines from the poems and stories are going to stay with me for a long time to come. I am glad I waited to read Kahlil Gibran and I’m even more glad that the marvel has lived up to the expectations and hype surrounding it. I would definitely recommend this edition published by @srishtipub as you get a lot more than just The Prophet, it is easy to read and full of significance, it’s easily available in India and you’re bound to learn something new for sure.

Raj is a brilliant Indian student studying at IIT who strategically applies for an internship in Switzerland to fulfil his dreams of travelling and exploring what the world has to offer. During this time, he meets Sofia, a German student who Raj instantly falls in love with. Their chemistry was visible throughout and it was both adorable and hot, the manner in which the two got together in a slow burn but imperative manner.

The Promised We Made started as a really cute love story that brought back so many memories of my own teenage years spent getting to know people of different cultures, travelling to different cities, learning a few language, falling in love and just making the most of the moment by having a good time. Towards the end, however, the story took a very sharp turn that was hard to swallow and left me feeling devastated.

A book that made me smile for the most part because of how relatable everything was for me, The Promises We Made is very well written. A good writing style coupled with really good storytelling and characters that are nicely developed, this book was quick, cute and sad read that I actually enjoyed quite a bit.

Author Jigar Prajapati’s It Must Have Been Love is the story of college best friends Maan and Naaz, whose love is clearly visible but they don’t do anything about it. A very relatable recounting of their college and post-college days, this book was a wonderful and sad story of how sometimes, things left unsaid and undone really breaks not only you, but everyone around you apart.

While the author studied in a Hindi medium school and found it a big challenge to write an English novel, it didn’t seem so at all. Jigar’s writing was easy and simple to follow, which is a major advantage making this book accessible to a larger audience. I have to applaud the author for courageously taking up the challenge of not just writing but sharing this short and sweet story.

With incidents that will take the reader back to their college days, characters who seem like people you know or people you find bits of yourself in, a medley of events that bring the most unexpected people together and an unexpected ending that will leave one experiencing a plethora of mixed feelings, It Must Have Been Love is a quick sad love story that I wouldn’t have picked up otherwise, but am glad I read anyway.

Faceless, a murder mystery by author Ashwin Karthik is quite an intriguing tale about the investigation done by police officer Abhinay into the death of a famous scientist that leads to many more curious events. As someone who doesn’t normally pick up such books, I found the story to be interesting but not so much that it kept it on the edge of my seat.

A meticulous mélange of history dating back to a 2000 year old secret Indian society and technology that governs our lives today, Faceless is packed with information that will leave the reader with more knowledge, which is always a huge advantage. The way the author combines the two was simply astounding.

A book that’s less than 150 pages with a story that is quite calculating, characters that are distinct and full of interesting facts and information, Faceless was a satisfactory read that leaves hope for more to come. Fans of mystery will find this to be a quick and cool read!

The only expectation I had from author Prasun Roy’s The Good Wizard is that I was hoping that I would get lost in this children’s fantasy story for a while and enjoy it. And that’s exactly what ended up happening.

The Good Wizard is an intriguing story about Badshah Bisht, an amazing wizard who starts losing his memory and on his quest to find an ailment for this, he ends up meeting the wonderful Titli who he takes under his wing and trains to be a magician like him. Author Prasun Roy has written an enjoyable story that children will adore because it has a bit of everything in it, but most importantly, it’s a good story.

I don’t know what I thought this book would be about but it ended up being a super quick and fun read that did it’s job of keeping in entertained and engrossed for a while. I would recommended this one to parents of young reads- I can see this becoming a beautiful story to narrate to kids.

Author Shalaka Nadhe’s Broken by Love was a first of its kind read for me because of how intensely and seriously the act of stalking is taken up in it. This book is all about the lengths one would go to, to achieve something they want, focusing on the fact that the mind really is incredible- you set your mind to something and you will get it, and you will do anything- literally anything- to have it your way. While a very powerful and sometimes uncomfortable read, Broken by Love had me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Happy married to the love of her life Sumit and a heavenly mother to her son Amey, the description of Sushmita’s mundane life seemed rather boring to me at first, but once you start to really invest in the story, you understand exactly why each and every detail is necessary to show how a second can change everything for someone or even one person- Raghav in this case. A short and gripping read, this one is also serious and emotional. How author Shalaka Nadhe has managed to write an engrossing story in the most detailed and precise manner possible in less than 160 pages is beyond my imagination and I find it applauding.

Broken by Love is not just a sad love story. It is about the rather ignored but dangerous act of stalking, lack of love in the lives of innocent children and its consequences in adulthood, psychological problems, the fleetingness of life, emotional trauma, mind games, and then comes a story that’s heart shattering but so well done. This is a whole package that I would surely recommend.

As someone who does not normally read or enjoy romances, I must say that I was slightly sceptical about picking up Vijaya Sandireddy's Bitten By Love, but I thought I should give it a go and see how it turns out. Turns out, the book is fast paced, emotional, funny in some places and overall a good read that for a change, had me wanting to know more about the story. 

Bitten By Love is the story of Anu and Abhi who meet as colleagues and eventually fall in love. The way Vijaya showed the progress and growth of their relationship was beautiful. It wasn't the whole "oh boom- we  in love", nor was it a slow burn romance. The relationship progressed quietly steadily from colleagues to friends to lovers and the overall characters and story were well balanced. 

With any romance set in an Indian household, family plays a very important role. In this aspect as well as the workplace front, the book had a very 2 States vibe to it, which was good because that's a story I enjoyed. Anu being the youngest in the family is protected, cared for the most as teased by her family, which was very relatable. Abhi's family was refreshing to see as he is brought up by a single mother, without any siblings. 

I don't have much else to say other than the fact that this book was a genuinely good read. I won't be reading it again for sure, but I know that the story will stay with me for it had both the innocent and pure aspect of love coupled with the heartbreaking and taxing part of it. Pick this book up as your weekend read, and you're bound to have an enjoyable time.

REVIEW: 

Although the author has quite a few books in his name, Girl Next Door was the first book of Arpit Vageria that I read. There are two reasons why I was attracted to the book. I had watched Srishti Publisher and Distributor's Arup Bose interview Arpit and I found the author's personality to be quite energetic, positive and cheerful and so I was naturally inquisitive to know all about his book. Even though I do not read romances, I was drawn to the lockdown love story as I was quite curious to read about the worldwide lockdown in fiction. 

While we have all read heaps and heaps of articles and studies about the Coronavirus, and we have seen videos of stuff people were up to all over the world during the lockdown, we haven't read it much in fiction yet. Although the name of the virus and everything related to it was changed, it was quite refreshing to read about the memories created during the lockdown in a typical desi household. We all have some or the other interesting story to tell from the time, and the author managed to do it quite well. Most of the things going around the main characters' neighbourhood were relatable and brought back memories from the lockdown. 

The story of Girl Next Door was your typical filmy, entertaining story with loads of drama which sometimes got on my nerves because of how unrealistic it seemed. While the romance between the main characters Ishaan and Ruhi made me nostalgic as it brought back memories from the 90s, I felt it lacked depth at times due the lack of glimpses into their actual bonding. That is understandable though, because most Indian romances focus more on family than the actual romance. I would have honestly loved a few more deep talks that Ishaan and Ruhi must have (hopefully) shared. 

All the side characters in the book from Ishaan and Ruhi's families to their friends and neighbours were very well portrayed and developed. This story is all about being apart for years and how the virus was actually a blessing in disguise for both individuals and the wonderful planet we inhabit by making both better. Making mistakes, accepting them, forgiving those involved and yourself in the process... author Arpit Vageria portrayed it all amazingly well in his simple writing and captivating storytelling. 

Overall, quite an adorable romance and although at times over dramatic, this was still a wonderful story that will bring back memories from your childhood, from the lockdown and will leave you both smiling and heartbroken by the end. The biggest advantage is that it's also a quick paced read, so do give it a go!

REVIEW: 

Finding Juliet by Toffee started of really well, because I found myself relating to all the first crush and first love incidents of the male protagonist Arjun's story about his college days. Almost all those little things brought a smile to my face and I found myself enjoying the book, even though it's not something I'd ever even consider picking up otherwise. But I thought I'd give this book a try because I knew it would be a short, simple and sweet read, which it was, save for a few problems I had with it. 

It was towards the second half of the book where there's that whole have a girlfriend to flaunt and not seem a loser that started getting on my nerves. No matter how chill or sweet a book is, this is one thing I just cannot stand for the life of me. Another point that I didn't agree with was the make out and make up drama. Also, even when Arjun was smart enough to understand that a particular relation wasn't exactly good, he kept going on with it. But of all these, the worst was being proud of being in numerous relations at once and assuming how a woman's brain works, like, just stop!

Now that the positives and negatives are out of the way, let's talk about the story. An engineer by profession, Arjun joins the IT industry after his studies and lands a really good job, and apparently, also a very cool social life. Aside from the few times where he got on my nerves, Arjun was a really sweet and kind person. Although he did mess up majorly sometimes, his realisations and the fact that he learned from his mistakes made him a good person. Arjun also enjoys writing and contributes as lyricist to bands and movies. I would have loved to see some of Arjun's writing work in the book because I'm sure it would've added much more to the book.

Author Toffee's writing was really good; very simple and extremely easy to understand. All in all, although Finding Juliet seemed like a typical Bollywood movie, it was a good read that was enjoyable but there are some parts of it that I just cannot stand, no matter what. But it's definitely a good or- as they say, "time-pass"- read that gives a nice glimpse into the lives of techies.

Review- Colorful Notions by Mohit Goyal

Colorful Notions is a book about three friends who take an epic road trip and decide to cover some 25 destinations all over India. Abhay and Sashank have been the closest of friends since childhood and at the confusing age of 25, they decide to ditch real life and go on a road trip with Sashank's assistant RJ girlfriend, Unnati, who lends her singsong voice to the documentary/ film they decide to create on their journey.

Each character in the book was so different from the other, and that's exactly what made the book so real and smooth because as much as a road trip book is about travelling and exploring, it is also about each different character, their unique personality and their admirable individualism. And in the end, it's about how these differences bring people together and closer. While there were so many incidences that were dumb to put it bluntly, they all added value to the book because after all, road tripping is nothing but a learning experience. Nonetheless, it's difficult to overlook the sometimes extreme recklessness (coming from mature people) and the sometimes unnecessary and over drama that seemed very frequent in the book. 

Books about road trips are the most entertaining and emotional because they are both light and deep at the same time. Road tripping isn't just about getting in car, travelling unimaginable distances, trying out new food, meeting new people and having the time of one's life. It is all that, yes; but there's so much more to it, because it always ends up being a life-altering experience, and no matter what age one is, it almost always ends up being a very coming of age experience that is enlightening, refreshing and wise. This is what the book teaches and the message of connecting with oneself and others was lovely. 

Colourful Notions was a great read that has been nicely penned down by author Mohit Goyal, whose writing is simple and easy to understand. One of the greatest part is that each chapter is dedicated to one place and one incident which gives a nice and enough (in terms of quantity) glimpse into everything. It's very precise and not boring at all, which is exactly why this read is highly recommended.
