Review- If I Lie by Corrine Jackson

Goodreads Summary-

A powerful debut novel about the gray space between truth and perception.

Quinn’s done the unthinkable: she kissed a guy who is not Carey, her boyfriend. And she got caught. Being branded a cheater would be bad enough, but Quinn is deemed a traitor, and shunned by all of her friends. Because Carey’s not just any guy—he’s serving in Afghanistan and revered by everyone in their small, military town.

Quinn could clear her name, but that would mean revealing secrets that she’s vowed to keep—secrets that aren’t hers to share. And when Carey goes MIA, Quinn must decide how far she’ll go to protect her boyfriend…and her promise.

Review-

I was eagerly awaiting the release of If I Lie since a long time. The book has a pretty cover but the summary is what caught my eye and made me want to delve into the book and find out all of Quinn's secrets. And find out I did. The summary says that the novel is about the gray space between truth and perception. I think that is what perfectly sums up the book.

Sophie Topper Quinn, our main character is caught kissing a boy who is not her boyfriend. Her boyfriend Carey is a marine and it is the worst thing she could ever do in her small town. But the thing is that Quinn didn't actually cheat on her boyfriend. Then Carey goes MIA and all hell breaks lose in Quinn's life. I was desperately hoping that it wouldn't be a love triangle and I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

Quinn is such a strong character that she makes me admire her. She is passionate and determined and stubborn and so realistic. There are flaws and imperfections in her and I think that's what makes her so easy to understand to me. She doesn't let anyone bullshit her and all things considered she is just like one of us trying to get through life. Her relationship with her dad, her mom, Blake and everyone else was portrayed to perfection. I felt that maybe I would have done the same thing if I were in her situation.

If I Lie was definitely a heart breaking read. There were so many moments in the book which made me feel sad for Quinn. The circumstances which she's facing makes you feel helpless and angry at the same time. There are so many emotions going through you that it ends up leaving you with mixed feelings. There is no black and white in this book. Just thousands of shades of grey.

Corrine Jackson weaves a beautiful story going through the past and present happenings in Quinn's life. It made the book a richer experience and made you understand all the multi dimensional characters. Her writing style is just amazing. There were several quotes which I highlighted while reading the book. Its like they were made to express exactly what you were feeling. I think If I Lie was one of the best books that I've read this year and you should definitely read it.
