Review-
I have not been a Gena Showlater fan in the recent past. I used to love her books before but since the last year or two I wasn't enjoying her books like I did before. So when I saw that she had a new contemporary romance series coming out I thought I'd give it a try. The One You Want is the novella which starts off the series. Sadly, I did not like this one very much.
Kenna lives in Strawberry Valley where reputation means everything. Sadly for Kenna her reputation sucks mainly because of a mistake in the past. It also doesn't help that her mother had an affair with a married man and now everyone thinks Kenna does the same. I liked Kenna and how she was in the present. She regretted her actions from the past but she was trying hard to make it work for her and her daughter.
Then we have Dane who is our hero. I did not like him. At all. Dane was an asshole plain and simple and though I think he was trying to be all cold and mysterious he just came off as an ass. I did not feel any warmth towards him even by the end of the novella and I especially didn't like his behaviour towards Kenna's daughter.
Gena Showalter can definitely write a romance but I found nothing special with Kenna and Dane's. I don't know if it was because it was a novella and we didn't get enough time with them or what but I did not care much about the characters. We are introduced to the cast who will get the next full length books in the series. The One You Want was a very average read for me.
Sorry to hear that there wasn't much special about their romance, but it prb is due to novella status
