Review- Crossing The Line by Katie McGarry

Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…

Lila McCormick, Echo's best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.

Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.

Crossing The Line takes place between Pushing The Limits and Dare You To. Its the story of Lila and Lincoln. Lila was Echo's best friend in Pushing The Limits and if you have a problem trying to recall who she was, like me, she's the friend who sticks by her all along unlike the other girl, Grace.

Lila met Lincoln two years ago when tragedy struck both their lives. A surprise encounter leads to an unexpected connection between the two the them. This leads to two years of them exchanging letters. What neither of them expect is to fall so hard for each other. But Lincoln lies to her about an important thing which changes everything between them.

Lila was a sweet girl. She has her insecurities and doubts like any of us. Since the past two years she's depended on Lincoln's letters to be who she wants to be. Lincoln was a cool guy too. He has a seriously messed up home life and Lila's letters are the only thing he looks forward to. When a stupid mistake on his part leads to hurting Lila he'll to anything to earn her forgiveness.

I really liked Lila and Lincoln. They were both dealing with change in their lives. They had each other as their only constant. When Lincoln finally meets Lila they have an instant recognition of each other. They know and understand each other perfectly well. I loved the romance too. It was slow and subtle and strong.

Crossing The Line goes from alternating points of view. We get a good look at what's going on inside Lila and Lincoln's head. I would have really liked an epilogue or at least some hint of what happens after because I really don't know if we'll get to meet them again. Lila and Lincoln have no connection what so ever to Beth and Isaiah. But still it was a good and super quick read.

  1. I have this book waiting for me but I must find some time to read it! :) I'm so happy that you liked it. I can't wait to read both this and Dare You To :)

    1. Hope you enjoy them just as much as I did Tanja! :)

  2. It's like we read it at the same time. I really liked it though I wish it was longer. I was getting so invested in the story and it ended. Still, I enjoyed Lincoln's story more and I want to know more about his family. They are very crazy and what's up pwith Meg. I have so many questions, and can I just say that purple roses (I googled it) are the prettiest flowers ever. Gosh!
    Fab review :)

    1. I know! I wouldn't have minded a full length novel for Lincoln and Lila. Link's family was SO messed up! Oh, now I gotta google those purple roses too :)
